India should really be ordering LCH's & Rudra's in droves. There's a huge need for armed helos & CAS assets in general, and Apaches aren't going to fulfill that need in terms of sheer numbers.

Also, the ALH (Dhruv) and LUH could be used for a lot of other tenders/needs across the three services too. Large orders need to be placed for indigenous helicopters - that's one area that can be a massive Aatmanirbhar success story (along with artillery guns).
Army has 50 rudra with 10 more on order . But the atgm helina is equipped or not idk.

For CAS, the best & quickest workaround in my opinion - is to increase numbers of LCH and Rudra. And transfer all attack helo assets to Army Aviation (including the Apaches). This situation may potentially be remedied by theater commands (or not) - that remains to be seen.

And since some amount of fixed winged CAS assets are also needed; either there should be a bigger order for MK1A's, or you could go with an unconventional but cheap quick-fix like Armed Bae Hawks.

When it comes to Helicopters, Chinook is the most versatile. manouverable and useful platform for High Altitude Areas.

It can carry a heavy load as also larger number of troops. It is the most suitable platform to use to reinforce threatened locally. drop troop behind the Chinee to block the. Carry construction material to build barracks, bunkers, roads and tracks, boats and supplies besides ammunition.

Buy more Chinooks rather than Apaches...

Use LCH in larger numbers... for CAS. Forget about NAG and Helina - Mount Spike on those platforms and press them into service.

Can CAS be done using just 20 mm gun? Rudra has neither ATGM nor rockets, and people here are wondering why LCH is not being ordered.

MOD should first arm their existing Rudras. Then dream about LCH.

What are you gonna do it with then...? LCH's & Rudra's are the closest thing India has to a solution, if missiles/rockets are a problem, do whatever has to be done as a workaround.

Yes workaround is being done in terms of arming Rudras with rockets and developing HELINA. Unless that happens, of course the LCH won't be ordered. But the problem is many posters want to ignore this problem and keep crying on why LCH is not being ordered.

So make it happen soon, and if you can't, then find alternate solutions - conflicts don't wait for product development.

The Army has ordered 6 Apache's costing Rs. 6,600 crores.

OTOH, they are getting 72,000 Sig 716 and 21 lakh rounds for Rs 700 crores.

Priorities, anyone?

Then they gripe about the INSAS and Babu's in all their wisdom want to force the AK at inflated prices to please Putin.

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place and acting pricey.

With Rs. 6,600 crores, they could have bought enough Sig 716 and Negev's to equip .. well never mind.
Funny, Babu's acquiesce to Apaches but refuse sophisticated small arms that give a clear advantage to our front line troops. Sounds like a very weak argument.

Hopefully, with a CDS in place, this bitter rivalry that results in forces acquiring the same weapon at different price points and in piece meal orders can be limited.
The six Apaches to the Army is a joke because they do not fulfill even a fraction of the requirements for deep thrust ops like Cold Start where attack choppers add to the fire power of the IBGs. As of now they are being fully integrated with the mechanised forces. However, these Apaches may have to be augmented by the LCH which have a similar armament profile with enhanced manoeuvrability and armour protection, though they are primarily meant for the mountains, and being allotted to the Mountain Strike Corps.

Rudra has rockets it also has Mistral air to air to shoot down chinki helicopters. It has tested helina too. Helina is just not operational now ! But I could be wrong.

Anyway we can always arm it with Spike to bust tanks.

I think the idea was to use Apache with longbow as pack leader with lch in tow. Also Apache are more likely to be used to take out Sam sites first rather than tank busting.

No rockets sir. Contract itself signed in 2019 for rockets for just 18 Rudras. HELINA definitely not operational.
Spike arming is DRDO's responsibility. They should do that instead of crying about LCH orders. DRDO won't do that because they want that market for HELINA. So until HELINA completes development and arms a substantial number of Rudras, no chance of LCH orders. Have been telling this to forum members for sometime now.

Don't forget army now has emergency procurement powers . So army could use those provisions to purchase additional spikes and mount them to helos.

What is the status of helina trial though ?
