India-China border face-off: Significant Chinese buildup emerges at Depsang plains

https://economictimes.indiatimes.co...es-at-depsang-plains/articleshow/76475166.cms

NEW DELHI: A significant Chinese buildup at the Depsang plains, which lie close to the Daulat Beg Oldie airfield, has emerged as another area of concern amid the current standoff in eastern Ladakh.

The Chinese have violated the Indian perception of LAC in Depsang by moving in troops and building a considerable strength close to the area with tanks and artillery, sources said. The buildup is of particular concern as China claims an area of about 20 km inside the Indian territory.

Sources said Chinese deployments are now well within the Indian side of LAC and at least two roads are rapidly being constructed for fast movement of troops.

The location is also strategic as Chinese side can use its units there to interdict and cut off road access to the DBO airfield as well as the Karakoram pass. Indian territory under threat includes the camp at Burtse and the Raki Nalla area while the buildup has been observed at a feature known as bottleneck, sources said.

In 2013, a three-week standoff took place at the Depsang plain after a Chinese platoon set up a camp near Raki Nalla. This was a surprise for India as this disputed area — where the LAC difference ranges from 15-20 km — had been patrolled by both sides in the past. The Chinese side agreed to withdraw after weeks of flag meetings. Since then, India has completed its road to DBO and beyond, increasing the strategic value of the location.

We have a whole Naval base there.. Brush up a bit sir....
Yes , a naval base with a tri services command but with hardly any principal assets stationed there. And no it’s not fortified enough. Not enough deployment for the vast number of islands and it’s strategic potential is not being exploited . At least nowhere near it’s potential. It needs to be turned into a theatre command on its own. You can squeeze the Chinese right there and there.

I disagree, think of like this. Say they send in subs first, it will eventually be picked up the destroyers and the other flotilla of seventh fleet. They cannot send CBGs, it will be trailed by the seventh fleet ship. In fact it will be trailed so that we don't have to do heavy lifting of search work or recon.
In a full blown invasion the US will support us militarily , if they grab a chunk of ladakh , apart from press release dont expect much from them .

They also had talks yesterday , US wants a bunch of things from them . The Chinese already agreed to a lot of it .

China pledged to buy US$36.5 billion worth of American agriculture products under the phase one deal, up from US$24 billion in 2017, before the trade war

Indian army physicaly patroll only upto finger 4 and pla upto finger 2...pla also built motor road upto finger 4 long ago
Forget about Indian Army. Last time it was ITBP patrol that got whacked by the Chinese. Why did not they return with a battalion force the next day and beat the hell out of the Chinese?

JS(E) was not standing there.

And how has this Finger2 jetted in between ??

Sub movement intelligence is already being shared by the US. Shadowing is one thing. Getting directly involved is another.

Theory on Modi's statement:

China put up "structures" right at the LAC in Galwan Valley and obstructed the flow of the river. As part of de-escalation understanding, both troops had to withdraw some distance from LAC and thus China had to abandon the post at LAC.

On the intervening night of June 15/16, PLA abandoned the post. A small Indian patrol party burned the camp so as the Chinese don't occupy it again. This "irritated" the Chinese who ambushed the patrol and killed the CO and 2 sepoys. But actually they had pre-planned the ambush by gathering stones and clubs nearby. This happened at LAC

When this news reached Indian camp, they went for revenge. Now, the PLA released the river water in which many a soldiers fell and drowned. But Indians were also able to cause damage to PLA who lost 35 including CO (according to US intel). This probably happened on the Chinese side of LAC.

So, in conclusion, China did not enter Indian territory but tried to artificially enlarge their claim, as is their MO, by putting up camp right at LAC overseeing the Indian camp and did not de-escalate as per understanding.

Something is definitely going on. Instead of sitting back and trying to defend the Chinese intrusions we need to take the initiative and take the battle to their territory. I think their aim is the Depsang plains , Daulat beg oldie and the Karakoram pass. If we take the initiative we may win or loose but if we sit back we will only loose more territory as we have till now.
