IAF was seriously questioning Su57's ability and basically branded it as 4+ gen fighter not a 5th gen ,i read it somewhere, howcome they have changed their opinion,i mean there is a serious threat at the moment,so are they anticipating J20 coming into play? @IndianHawk,@Bleh what do you say about this?
Panick stricken. Better buy more Rafale.
They lambasted Pakfa on super cruising, RCS etc

Gist of issue is this. We can hold them somehow on the ground, but for aerial duels, we might need US help. Unfortunately for India, that will come with heavy concessions. If China does indeed plan something outrageous, then don’t be surprised if Modi seeks US boots on ground.... I know that will upset people here but that’s what happens when you keep defence preparedness as your lowest priority over 2 decades!!!

China if it approaches through northern areas it cannot do so with mechanised forces. Therefore, infantry can hold them unless they are throwing everything they have on India or that Indian forces cannot defend itself due to superior Chinese tactics.

I keep hearing this a lot. What are those "heavy concessions?" That we allow 100% FDI in multi-brand retail (enabling Wal-Mart and Costco to the disdain of the local neighborhood kirana wallah who's already getting his ass taken by D-Mart, Big Bazaar and Spencer's)? Other than that, what? F-21 (which was going to happen anyway due to TATA being BJP's biggest political benefactor)? What more can a country that just got rid of the UK some 70 years ago do?

We can hold them on the ground, but there is asymmetry when it comes to aerial capabilities.

This I can agree with. Beijing is counting on the fact that local politics will prevent Modi from overtly seeking Western help when push comes to shove.

I actually won't discount Modi doing the unthinkable (such as entering NATO). It would mean instant deactivation of Russian hardware by Moscow, but the US is ready with contingency (such as that 100 F-15 JSDAF deal).

Well placed Iron Dome umbrella would've given adequate protection to our forces and their equipment.
An Iron Dome missile costs less than $50k and has a range of 40-50 km.

Distributed wisely, these along with properly placed CIWS (OFB made AK-630) would have given some protection to most of our troops from various aerial threats.

Alas, someone in MoD thinks BIGGER is BETTER, hence more pressing small ticket items always drop off the shopping list.
How about hunting and killing the launchers - cheaper than iron dome????

US is completely money-driven. I can tell you that because I live here. Give goras enough money and they will do your bidding. Here, our interests converge with Pompeo, who’s an ex CIA guy. He calls the shots in foreign policy

Unlike the hyper nationalists, Modi is a very practical person. He’s not about to lose out to cheeni bat munchers due to a problem he’s not responsible for.
Forget Galwan for a moment, given Govt. response post Covid-19 outbreak, Modi and US probably know a lot more about the Wuhan virus than what is being publicly acknowledged.

Modi is a reasonable man. He gives his adversaries a very long leash. In China's case, the leash began to be tightened slowly in March followed by more import bans and returns of testing kits, PPE etc.

There is more to this crisis than what meets the eye.

That is there. Everyone knew we are critically low on squadrons and that enemy intention change overnight, but nobody had the guts to buy those damn planes. Post galwan if it does not escalate to war, we will be again back to bickering about DPP etc🤪🤪🤪

of course they did and I don't doubt it either, I was talking about most foreign analysts not supporting India's F-16 kill announcement. Anyways all this is off topic

When i edited my message, I erased the mention of an independent Italian journalist who confirmed the strike, and even gave casualty figures. I think what happened in the assessment of the Balakot hit, was that one satellite analysis company reported that the JEM compound was barely damaged, and then every major news outlet( like the NY Times) and news aggregators like the Huffington Post and Bloomberg et al, repeated the information. But the bombs dropped by the IAF were not meant to demolish the building, but to penetrate it and destroy everything inside.

Okay, but I'm still trying to understand what those "concessions" you keep talking about actually are. So far I have:
  • 100% FDI in multi-brand retail
  • Most other sectors already allow >50% FDI and foreign control
  • Manufacturer liability limitations against industrial accidents
  • We already reformed bankruptcy law and made big strides with labour reforms
  • Termination of mil-hardware relationship with Russia, go with NATO (which we're already kinda doing?)
Help me add to this list.

My point is, a 2-front war is going to happen, and Modi will take decisions that enable a western hammer-down in the region (think B-2 Spirits showing up on Hindon's apron). I doubt that they'll come at the cost of "concessions." The west is already our biggest trading bloc.

Sharing a 2000-mile land border with NATO will be a disaster for China, and an even bigger disaster for Pakistan.
