“Obviously, China is trying to change the status quo unilaterally in the East China Sea, the
South China Sea
, at the Indian border and in Hong Kong. It is easy to make connections about those issues,” Taro Kono said at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan in Tokyo.

One thing that is of worry is the Chinese rocket artillery. They have some very long range stuff. Wonder how effective they are though.
They have
550 PHL-81/90 and 375 PHZ-89
Phil 03 175
Around 250 Type 63 and Type 63C in service
PCL 09 around 210
They have around 1,700 MBRL's in Services
Weishi Rockets Uknown Numbers

Well placed Iron Dome umbrella would've given adequate protection to our forces and their equipment.
An Iron Dome missile costs less than $50k and has a range of 40-50 km.

Distributed wisely, these along with properly placed CIWS (OFB made AK-630) would have given some protection to most of our troops from various aerial threats.

Alas, someone in MoD thinks BIGGER is BETTER, hence more pressing small ticket items always drop off the shopping list.

No doubt that they are having numerical superiority. This is still high time for Indian political leadership and bureaucracy to learn lessons and avoid being myopic. We start four lane project when the need goes upto 6 lane and when the project completes, our requirement turns for 8 lane.

Iron dome can't stop a fast approaching barrage of missile, besides it's impossible to cover all the strategic points with it.

IAF was seriously questioning Su57's ability and basically branded it as 4+ gen fighter not a 5th gen ,i read it somewhere, howcome they have changed their opinion,i mean there is a serious threat at the moment,so are they anticipating J20 coming into play? @IndianHawk,@Bleh what do you say about this?

This might be a silly koschen but where do Pakis keep all their tanks?
Approx how many long range radar do they have on the borders?
Typically how many radars guard a airbase.

Iron Dome can do wonders against rockets and missiles that have a straight trajectory - Rocket Artillery.

Iron Dome has a success rate of over 84% and that is bloody impressive.

Something is better than nothing. Find me an alternative. The rest come a cropper and cost a bomb. The rest don't even put up a fight against the same 'fast approaching barrage of missiles'.

Little can be done when you have 100 x 155mm arty shells flying in your direction at intervals of 10 seconds.

The range is too low to be effective against Chinese. It is more to guard cities.

Protection for Population centers.

That would include our bases spread over acres too, right?

What do we have at present?
Barring Spyders(only in IAF service), nothing.

We have some legacy systems like Osa, Strela, Tunguska, Shikla. The rest can't even put up a fight.

If ChiCom has to use 122 mm tube arty, they will be exposed to our counter fire.

They will have to use long range rockets and they are expensive, fewer in number and easier to counter unless they use their massive industry base and churn out thousands.

Course, we wouldn't be sitting on our hinds to let them come and pummel us.
