What is this current strategic autonomy we have that enables China to nibble and get away with it, kill our soldiers and isn't heavily punished, Pakis bomb us but we don't blow their country to smithereens, and GoI forces soldiers to not fire bullets even when they are being killed?

Is that the strategic autonomy we are nurturing and afraid of losing?
Our traditional NAM kool-aid prevents taking sides in any conflict. This no-taking-sides approach is also because of our ambition of becoming a 'great power' on our own. It will be long hard upward climb no doubt.

Choice is between maintaining independent foreign policy and security decision making versus becoming a satellite/colony to a super power with all the attached privileges and benefits. Considering our geographical and geo-political realities, it appears to be a tough choice on the surface. But our long term aspirations dictates that we don't get into a bear-hug and become a pawn/subservient slave to the master .

There are short-term struggles in maintaing true independence versus long term respect and benefits.

Its a trade off best left to experts and strategists.

The Sea Oryx (Chinese: 海劍羚飛彈系統) is an indigenous lightweight, infrared homing short-range air defense system developed for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy. Based on the TC-1L surface-to-air missile, it is designed for defending against anti-ship missiles, helicopters, and low flying fixed-wing jet airplanes.

The AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System or XN-1 LaWS is a laser weapon developed by the United States Navy. The weapon was installed on USS Ponce for field testing in 2014. In December 2014, the United States Navy reported that the LaWS system worked perfectly against low-end asymmetric threats, and that the commander of the Ponce is authorized to use the system as a defensive weapon.

Lol 45k soldiers what they're up to? To capture f4-f8 or push chene out from F4? These are deployed to hold chene aggression from entering F3. That typically means F4 is lost which means surrendered!
if you understand one basic point that we are in a state of war and govt is working on it behind the scenes.it is just that govt is not pushing the narrative in media so that panic does not set in. war is always long-drawn affairs and the side which shows tactical adaptability is likely to come out as a winner.it is like a game of chess where ones take some pieces to moves backward to create new attack positions. you can ask questions to govt in the 2024 election till that time, wait for govt to handle the situation. do not expect instant results as this may create tactical mistakes.

I think one big dent and non-aligned policy will get flying out the door.

Non-aligned movement is dead. India will need allies even in a multi-polar world. World has changed.

See I was a big supporter of maintaining relations with Russia. Russia has been far more friendly to India than many Western countries. However Indian political and business class are too pro-West. So India has chosen a side by default. Obviously Russia cannot help beyond a point.

Now India will have to go begging to the West. I would say be ready to eat your ego as nation always comes first.

One thing is for sure India cannot produce all its requirements and therefore it will have to import. Now despite all the hype it cannot buy western kit due to high price to equip a huge force. Suppose we take IAF requirement of 42squadrons, even France has only 200 odd Rafale. Now we lower budget we cannot match the numbers we want.

Therefore, Russian imports will continue and it also helps to prevent tilt to our adversaries.

1. Ditching Russia was a good move. lately they started misusing India reliance on russia and were over charging the quote 10x, e.g Cost of 5th gen.
2. All the submarine lease form Russia were too expensive.
3.Russia is on verge of backruptcy.

With time you need to move on and ditch your old friends since they started to misuse the friendship. No point of doing blame game.

1. US/EU is giving latest tech to India. In most of tech US is much advance than Russia except in few cases.
