How. They have no historical claims to the coastal areas. Myanmar's Buddhism is not Tibetan buddhism. Worst case they can grab some land on their borders (i.e. China Myanmar border).

Unless they go full Japanese Empire (in WW2) route and just start gobbling up countries.

CPEC won't be direct land grab. They want to build something similar to American alliance system. Economic alliance backed by security co-operation. And their UK will be Pakistan (their only strategic ally as of now).

China can and will grab and conquer anything it can get. But not right now, it is, like Vietnam, a booby trap. Slow colonialization by economic and cultural rot is more viable (like the case of Pakistan, Nepal), than by using force.
