men of 10 para were ambushed , captured and 5 of them were burnt alive by LTTE as they had allowed the transfer of some LTTE leaders to SL forces .I thought 10 did better, I read somewhere Sheonan Singh went with about a strength of 102-104.
Ofc yes you are correct that they had no small team concept
Only had a couple of casualties probably, ofc the main objective wasn't accomplished but what I read of that Jaffna University battle it looked tough considering that the whole sri Lanka campaign was doomed from the start. The airforce and sikh company was already in disarray in that Jaffna University LZ.
This was done when we were still playing the peacekeepers role . Before there was any direct announcement of LTTE becoming hostiles by our high command .
As for Jaffna Heli drop , on op is found to fuck up when you have absurd rules of engagement , a sleeping high command with ego issues , an infantry officer who refused to adapt and an Artillery regiment that brought guns but no ammo .
It was a team of SL engineers and their two mortar guns that saved the day , else casualties might have been higher . (it also caused 2 blue on blue casualties due to an officer's incompetence/error)
