jf17 block 1 was a 3.5 gen and now with some changes like mid air refueling it has become 4 gen. and radar of jf17 detects 3m2 at 75 km.
and from a report this changes will take place in 2016....... Jf17 is never a threat for india if we have tejas or mig29 in our air force..
now here is technical answer, tejas can detect 10 target and can fire at 4 same time. Jf17 will detect tejas at 30-40 km and tejas will detect it at 80km( rcs of jf 3m2-4m2). Tejas can carry 3 astras once(read it some where that tejas can carry 3 bvr once and two wvr) so 3 jf17 will be destroyed at 70-80km and 2 at 45 km...

maneuvers of tejas is better no doubt, cause of better design. Handling of tejas way superior cause of better fly by wire and it is generation ahead of jf17. As tejas have more powerful engine so more power to radar and ew suite.

IAF Grounds Its AgustaWestland Chopper Fleet
NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force has grounded its fleet of three AW-101 helicopters built by Anglo-Italian firm AgustaWestland whose Rs 3,600 crore deal to supply 12 VVIP choppers was cancelled earlier this year following allegations of bribery and payment of kickbacks. The firm had supplied three of the 12 choppers to the IAF when the allegations of corruption and payment of kickbacks in the deal emerged, following which the Defence Ministry had put the agreement on hold. "The fleet of these choppers is not flying for quite some time now as they are being preserved due to lack of spares," IAF spokesperson Group Capt Gerard Galway said when asked about the reasons of grounding of these choppers. The three choppers were part of IAF's VVIP squadron based at the Palam air base here, and even after the Government decided to put the deal on hold and later cancelled the contract, the IAF had continued training its pilots on these machines. The IAF had put up the infrastructure and its pilots had also received training in the UK and were practising on the three choppers. After scrapping the deal, India has encashed a guarantee of over Rs 2,200 crore deposited by AgustaWestland in banks in Delhi and Italy. The IAF has plans of using the Russian-origin Mi-17 helicopters for ferrying VVIPs. The IAF, at present, uses the Mi-8 choppers for the task but these machines are planned to be phased out in near future. Investigations were on by both the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Italian authorities into the allegations of corruption and their outcome is still awaited.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday scrambled fighter planes from Jodhpur airbase after two commercial passenger aircraft sought to enter Indian territory from Pakistan side using similar identification codes, sparking a security alert. Two MiG-21 fighter aircraft were sent from Jodhpur airbase to investigate a Turkish Airlines plane over Jaisalmer on Sunday morning when it repeated an identification code, which is unique to any aircraft, given by a commercial passenger plane that had entered Indian airspace before it. However, the Delhi- bound plane was later allowed to proceed after its credentials were verified, IAF officials said. The first aircraft entered the Indian territory using its identification code and doubts were raised when the second aircraft gave out the same code, an IAF spokesperson said. Two MiG-21 fighter aircraft were sent to intercept the aircraft and it was allowed to proceed towards its destination only after the fighter jets verified its credentials, he said. Sources said the commercial airliner from the West Asian country was on its way to Delhi after flying over Pakistan. The aircraft was picked up by Indian Air Force's radar unit based near Jodhpur.

NEW DELHI: The CAG today pulled up the Indian Air Force for an "unfruitful" expenditure of Rs 155 crore for developing an Electronic Warfare system aimed at enhancing capability of the Russian-origin MiG-27 fighter aircraft. The government auditor, in its report tabled in Parliament, said the India-Israel joint venture project for developing the system 'Takshak' was "injudicious" as it was sanctioned in 2009 by the force despite knowing that the MiG-27s would start getting phased out by 2016. "Due to injudicious decision and delay in development of 'Takshak' system, the objective of enhancing operational capability of a fighter aircraft could not be achieved. Besides, an expenditure of Rs 155.79 crore incurred on the project was rendered unfruitful," the report said. The Defence Ministry had accorded sanction for the Rs 311 crore project to be developed by 2011 "to enhance the operational capability of fighter aircraft and strengthen electronic warfare industry". The report said that despite delays in the programme, the IAF during trials found that it was not fully developed and could not meet a large number of technical specifications. "The IAF also acknowledged that induction of the 'Takshak' system in MiG-27 fleet would take at least another three years (from 2011) and complete fleet modification would be over only by 2016 whereas the MiG-27 aircraft fleet was planned to be phased out of service from 2014 onwards. "Therefore, it decided to foreclose the project since it was not possible to operationally exploit this system on the aircraft. An expenditure of Rs 155.79 crore had already been incurred on the project till then (January 2013)," the report said.

IN the AVRO-replacement contract, the RFP to Alenia (C-27J), Airbus (C-295), Antonov (AN-148) is quite understandable but why has the RFP gone to Lockheed-Martin and Boeing? Do they have any aircraft in this class? Strange !!! Even pricewise, if the aircraft will be priced 45 million USD per plane, which aircraft will qualify?
