O.K mate, thanks for the debate, I am sure we finished our debate on technical points and now we are moving into the realm of real unknowns.

Thanks,

Re: Why is Indian Airforce is not accepting Tejas mk1 completely ?

@Pulkit

Btw, in the same period as Pakistan plans on making 150-250 JF-17s, IAF is planning on inducting 123 LCA, 189 Rafale, and 200-300 FGFA apart from finishing inductions of 270 MKIs. So, who is pressuring who again?

What we have planned to date is enough for what we require.
yes we r planning.... planning.....planning.... planning.....planning.... planning.....planning.... planning.....planning.... planning.....

Indian Air Force plans to upgrade ageing Jaguars hits roadblock
The Indian Air Force's (IAF) plan to add much-needed new teeth with advanced missiles, engines and avionics to its ageing fleet of Jaguar fighters has failed to take off as the programme has got stuck with certain design and development issues.

The IAF initiated the process of upgrading the Jaguars in 2009 to bring a fleet of 61 aircraft to DARIN (Display Attack Ranging Inertial Navigation III) standards.

This meant that the more than four-decade-old aircraft would be transformed into a modern fighting machine with a head-up display, all-glass cockpit, advanced avionics, auto-pilot and new weapon systems.

The DARIN III standard Jaguar prototype also has a new mission computer and flight instrument system, besides a multi-function display and a digital video recording system. The first prototype of an upgraded Jaguar, made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, started flying in November 2012, but the results were far from satisfactory. The IAF had hoped the upgraded Jaguar would get initial operational clearance by December 2012. However, the deadline was missed because the prototype could not meet expectations.

Sources said the design and development aspects of the upgraded aircraft did not match with what was intended. As a result of the glitches, the schedule for completing the programme has gone haywire.

The IAF will not have an upgraded fleet of Jaguars even by 2019 now. It was earlier planned that the series upgrade would be completed by December 2017. The delay has come as a setback for the IAF, which is struggling to halt a slide in its fighter squadron strength.

Apart from Jaguars, the IAF is upgrading its Mirage 2000 fighters as well. The Mig-27s have also undergone a cockpit upgrade. The IAF's plan to replace the Jaguar's underpowered engine too, has been stalled for long. Officials, however, said price negotiations with engine maker Honeywell will start soon.

The IAF currently has a strength of 34 fighter squadrons. The fighter shortage is a serious problem being faced by the IAF, which hopes to seal a deal for the much-needed 126 French Rafale combat jets in this financial year.

Indian Air Force Symphony Orchestra and Drill Team performed at the India Gate

To generate Public awareness and showcase the glorious image of the Indian Air Force, a performance of the Air Warriors Synchronised Drill Team and Symphony Orchestra was held at India Gate today. Air Marshal HB Rajaram AVSM VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration was the Chief guest of the event. Drill being an integral part of Military Ethos, the Air Warrior Drill team (AWDT) was conceived to project the dynamic & vibrant image of the IAF. It is the first of its kind among all Military and Para- Military Forces in India as it performs unique advanced drill movements with rifles fixed with live bayonets. The AWDT during their display performed advanced rifle drill movements. The AWDT has emerged as the pride of the Indian Air Force and has been complimented as the "Ground Ambassador of IAF". The motto of the team is 'Drill to thrill'. Eighteen tunes including "Rejoice in Raisina, Vande Matram & few Bollywood numbers" of instrumental and vocal were played by the 30 member Indian Air Force Brass & Jazz band. They had enthralled audiences taking them on a melodious ride with an eclectic mix of delightful martial music and soulful numbers including arrangements of Symphonies, overtones & concertos as well as other forms of contemporary music.

Would have probably come home if we had made it worth his while. Time to stop being stingy I guess. We still need a lot of cutting edge technology. Wait decades or buy it now?

IAF for 3 spatial disorientation simulators for rookie pilots

GYROLAB GL-2500
May 31, 2014: With spatial disorientation continuing to be a serious concern for flight safety and cockpit effectiveness, the Indian Air Force has called for information to procure three new spatial disorientation simulators for young pilots. The simulator is intended to be used for training of aircrew in recognizing and effectively managing the experience of disorientation providing demonstration of spatial disorientation, disorientation training in flight, flight simulation and night vision training and motion sickness desensitisation. The IAF wants the new simulators to help rookie pilots to build resistance the most common spatial illusions, including coriolis, somatogyral, oculogyral, graveyard spin, nystagmus, leans, autokinesis, false horizon and black hole approach. The IAF has stipulated that the trainer should preferably provide six-degrees of freedom, with three-degrees of freedom in roll, yaw the pitch axis. The system should include a dual cockpit with pilot seats adjustable. Interactive flight controls should include changeable re-centering forces and dampening, visual displays should include increased field of view (FOV) and infrared projection for Night Vision image. The simulator should include aircraft sound and vibration simulation, chin window to be available for landing on platforms like an oil rig.
