IAF is confirmed to be interested in acquiring Greece's Mirage-2000-5s, although the level of discussion is very initial as of now.

If the Greeks no longer want them, make them an offer they cannot refuse!

offer them LCA tejas or other weapons in a swap barter type of deal or something
They have all nato standard weapons, barter is impossible.
They will sell the mirage but ask for 2 billion at least.
Honeywell did same thing for jaguar engines.

Rather we could just ditch mirage and opt for more mk1a

They are offloading the Mirage because they have Rafales now.

I gather that Greece is trying to reduce the number of types it has in service. Reducing its fleet by one type by retiring M2K only to take on an extra type by buying Tejas Mk1A does not reduce the number of types in service.

What makes you think that Greece would want 2 billion or more for its M2K fleet?

On the tack of India dumping M2K in favour of Mk1A, Mk1A is not the type envisaged to replace M2K. Tejas Mk2 is.

It will be the other way around..the IAF is likely to be one of the more promising customers. Mirages are comparatively harder to sell in the second hand market than F-16s. Which is why the Greeks must be sensible and keep the asking price at a level where the IAF doesn't lose interest.

They won't ask even close to that amount.

The Greeks are looking to finance another buy of 6 or so Rafales with the proceeds of this sale, which would be probably in the USD 600-700 million range IMO.

Any updates on the 100+ MRFA choice and deal?
IAF genrols will continue to salivate on such deal for kickbacks and commissions while GoI gonna continue not releasing funds for it and finally just like recent another 100 MK1A order, they get realisation and gonna have to settle for Tejas MK2 since its guarantee that BJP returns.

Saturn Al-55I engines that were supposed to be built at HAL. But that never happened since the HJT-36 never entered service. Those that are on the prototype and LSP HJT-36s are built entirely in Russian and imported.

This was long ago. In fact, the switch in the engine from the French Larzac to the AL-55I caused a long delay in the HJT-36 program.

India, meanwhile, has selected Saturn's AL-55I unreheated turbofan for the HAL HJT-36 intermediate jet trainer. The initial 4,000lb-thrust version will power the single-engined HJT-36, and a 5,000lb-thrust derivative of the twin-engined HJT-39 advanced jet trainer. Bench tests of the first prototype started in March last year and the engine is said to have completed qualification tests for the HJT-36 in December. Flight tests on an Ilyushin Il-76LL testbed are expected to start later this year.

In 2005 India signed two contacts totalling $250 million for development and licence production of 200 AL-55Is at HAL. Saturn will complete development of the engine and produce the hot section in Rybinsk while the final assembly will take place at UMPO. India will join the manufacturing process from the 100th engine. Saturn hopes to extend the agreement to cover production of 1,000 units.

Better getting home tech then foreign secound rate diluted stuff. I feel HAL, DRDO and other research organisations in and for India are up for future advanced warfare, therefore I believe, the products will be cutting edge and state of the art, when compared to products at par; available in the international market. Make in India at its finest!

I wonder, would the US allow LM to integrate Brahmos onto F-16? What about integration onto KF-21?
