Hindustan Times has learnt that though the Chinese fighters including the J-20 are flying on derivatives of Shenyang WS-10 engines, intelligence reports and assessments indicate that the PLA Air Force is struggling with serviceability, downtime, and performance of the engine
The Indian assessment based on performance of Chinese aircraft in Pakistan inventory and PLAAF aircraft shows that the engine is facing issues albeit it is flying and performing. The Chinese are prone to overstating the performance of their fighters through the state owned media,” said a former IAF chief
The PLAAF brought in the J-20 fighters into the western theatre command at the height of the stand-off in East Ladakh to counter the newly acquired Indian Rafales but the so-called fifth generation fighter did little flying and was only used to deter the IAF from any adventure
While there is no doubt that the Chinese capability on jet engine manufacturing is growing by the day, no neutral air force would buy a WS-10 engine as its first choice. Even though the Chinese system is opaque, the jet aircraft of Chinese origin with the Pakistan Air Force are facing downtime and serviceability issues

So, IA has started using this kind of (see attached screenshot from video) sandbag covers like US army.
Thats good to see, however why is the same not used in Kashmir at LoC ? Where we still see naked stone constructed sangars or bunkers or whatever they are called ?

For now chinkas jet engines may be junk, but 5yrs or 10yrs down the line ? Import air force being happy over jet engine deal is fine for now but the worrying factor is that there should have been atleast some statement from IAF gernails or an expression of worry that we don't have our own jet engine and chinka does thereby making us dependant on the west, while chinka is not . That IAF is not worried or bothered about this shows how short sighted they are.

Pretty tunnel-visioned mentality I must say.

First of all, IAF is not "elated" or throwing cocktail parties over this jet engine deal. This is the basic requirement for creating our own indigenous LCA Mk2. This is more of a sigh of relief instead.

Second, is anybody unaware of our failures with the Kaveri engine program? DRDO even after continuous efforts has failed to deliver on gas turbine engines, and it is understandable because gas turbine engines are harder than rocket engines. All these ToTs for AL-31F, and GE-414IN are a step towards perfecting our own engine tech, but instead of supporting this program for our own indigenous vision of jet engines, you accuse the Air Force of being "import happy".

You worry about China perfecting engine tech 5-10 years down the line and demand our Airforce (not MoD who is responsible for allocating funds, not DRDO who is responsible for engine tech development) to somehow throw away everything, break their bangles, wail and prioritize indigenous engine tech.

I ask you, tell me how many years China has flown their own indigenous jets (J-11, J-15, J-16, J-20, JF-17, and numerous other Soviet clones) with Russian imported, or Russian-copied engines?

Okay, leave that. Let's talk about some "developed nations" creating their own fighter jets. Let's do a fill-in-the-blanks for you.

Sweden - Gripen - Engine - ___ ?
South Korea - KF-21 (Stealth) - Engine - ___ ?
Japan - F-2 (F-16 clone) - Engine - ___ ?
Turkey - TAI Kaan (Stealth) - Engine ___ ?

Got the answer? How many of them scored indigenous engines?

China is building a bridge across the glacial lake, which spans Ladakh and Tibet, while India is building a black-topped road on the north bank; BRO is building 1,400 km of strategic roads along the LAC
“Construction of black-topped road towards Finger 4 on our side is on and is expected to be completed by 2025. There is major impetus on infrastructure, road networks, advanced landing grounds and so on,” an official source said, on condition of anonymity.
In addition, construction work is at an advanced stage on the alternate axis to the critical Darbuk-Skyok-Daulat Beg Oldie road through the Saser La, the source stated.
On the Chinese side, the source said that work is now underway on the main bridge, while the secondary bridge has been completed.
In addition, a 22 km-long tunnel is under construction along the G-0177 expressway at Yuli, connecting to the very important G-216 highway in Tibet.

More manpower reqd to stack them to create a defensive wall and takes more time I suppose.
Whereas these can be filled using a JCB quickly, also less gaps/holes in the wall to allow bullets through.
For that you need JCB also na
Sandbags isnt "sand" bags, it is "dirt and gravel" bag most often. And that is just dug up from ground, you only need jawan +shovel instead of JCB. Which is good enough for static border.

Ahem...

Tibetan spiritual head the Dalai Lama on Saturday expressed willingness to talk to Beijing, making it clear that he is not seeking Tibet's independence from China.

"China is changing and has now realised that the Tibetan people are very strong and in order to deal with the Tibetan problem, they want to have contact with me and I am also ready," he told media persons at the Kangra airport before leaving for Delhi.

"I am always open to talks with China and have made it clear years ago that we are not seeking complete independence and would remain a part of the People's Republic of China (PRC)," the Dalai Lama added in response to a question.

The Tibetan spiritual leader is slated to stay in Delhi for two days before leaving for Ladakh.

On his birthday on July 6, he released a four-minute video message saying, "I dedicate this life that I have now to helping limitless sentient beings to the best of my ability, I am determined to bring others as much benefit as I can."

Earlier also, the Dalai Lama had said that he is not seeking independence but autonomy for Tibet while remaining part of the PRC. -- PTI

Tibetans and Indian hawks should forget about free Tibet.

It's actually other way round. He is nearing end of his life, and he wants to spend last days in Tibet.

He has been trying to establish talks with Chinese since last 5-10 years now. Chinese have understood that he is of no use and after him the Tibetan Monk system will most probably end and are ignoring him unofficially.

Didn't matter either way... India signed a pact with CCP recognising Tibet as part of PRC in return of them recognising Kashmir as Indian.

I've been reading a bit on '62 & realised there's no good maps showing the LAC, only silly pencil drawings. So i has to make myself one, the red line is roughly where the present LAC passes through, our LAC, there Chinese claim line deviates from it here& there ...the black line is what divided the forces by 1959.

LAC before & after 1962.jpg

Blue points from North: Daulat-beg-oldi, Galwan clash point, Kongka-La, Finger 4.
