They'll probably come back sooner than 3 years. And India should treat every single day from this point onwards as being one day closer to a big war with China - work with that level of urgency.

Whether it's infra development, military acquisition, military reforms, altering strategic mindset in think tanks/various branches of Gvt which deal with these issues.

As part of that, in spite of the likely economic damage which will be caused by COVID - I really do not see any way around a significant defense budget hike. War is likely just a matter of time now - and capability will have to be built up (both overt and covert) to permanently resolve the Pakistan problem to the West, if we are to see an active LAC with constant deployments and deadly/non-deadly clashes.

Permanently maintaining two LOC's - and that too with defensive posture - would be suicide.
it’s not the defence budget that matters, rather how much more can be procured with what ever budget is available. This issue is being addressed thru make in India, so far so good.

As for your point on maintaining troops both on LAC & LOC at the same time, its not a matter of choice, since they have been imposed on us by our adversaries. Given that there not much choice Instead of viewing it as a disadvantage , might as well view it as an opportunity to buy more from domestic companies and build the private domestic MIC. The procurement and advancement that can done using Pakistan as an excuse has almost reached it’s limit, might as well use PLA as a excuse to modernise the forces even more.

spending money on military modernisation and forward deployment also helps the GDP numbers and distribution of monies among the suppliers.

Hmm now we know why that old pig bullah was saying he will take chinese help to restore 370 , if they don't recognise Ladakh which is our place as UT and Arunachal why are we even worried to call Taiwan which itself now claiming as independent country . Start with Air india ask the to start using Taiwan instead of chinese taipei in its website .

I can tell you there is no benefit in listening to China.

Why?

Because the Chinese position keeps on changing. There is no intention to talk in good faith. So while military option is expensive, it is the only viable option.

Giving up Ladakh and AP will NOT establish peace with China.

India should completely disillusion itself that this is about the land. It is not. This is about destroying India at any cost.

Or rather to make India subservient, there by removing a major potential threat in CCP’s backyard.

Budget size definitely matters. Indigenization (where possible) is obviously a good thing, as is efficient use of funds, but the current budget is not good enough.

As for your point on maintaining troops both on LAC & LOC at the same time, its not a matter of choice, since they have been imposed on us by our adversaries.
It is a matter of choice, the adversaries imposed this situation on us because we let them. And let me repeat, it is absolutely not sustainable in the long term; especially if the plan is to be defensive/reactive on both borders.

Pak has to be urgently neutralized as a threat and wrapped up as an issue in the coming years now.

The current situation really should be a big enough wake up call to that fact.

It's sad that some so called "experts" in Chinese think-tanks still don't understand Chinese basic thinking, so they keep asking why China did this? The simple answer is, because they could. It's like asking why a thief broke into your home after you left the front door open. The Chinese Communist Party leadership are criminals, so they are greedy by nature. They will grab land or areas of sea, or property of other countries whenever they can. That is why they are often caught mining or fishing illegally in other countries areas and seas. The only way to stop a thief/criminal is by putting him in jail or killing him. That is the only solution to the Chinese Communist Party/PLA problem. The Covid-19 virus and these invasions are just the start. Unless the Chinese Communist Party, PLA, and their followers are stopped, these kinds of attacks will only worsen, until Chinese Communist Party and PLA rule everywhere.

Even if the current round of military escalation ends in a stalemate, CCP is bound to come back 3 years later because of the loss of soldiers during galwan incident.

So Indian security establishment has no choice but to start preparations for next round of escalation which is not far away.

At a tactical level, I would like to see IA adopt beltfed LMG within next 2 years, magazine fed must be discarded. Imagine PLA coming in human waves and precious seconds lost due to magazine changes and loading issues.
We have ordered 16000 Negev NG 7s. Need about 28k more going by 2015 RFI for 44k LMGs.
This was the failed carbine and LMG bid.

But sir, it would be more prudent to deal with the LoC permanently (retake GB) and focus our resources (both human and monetary) towards the china border. I think this will cost less money and lives, albeit many lives will be lost either way..

Taiwan is wooing India. I suspect it is the US brokering something like they did in the Middle East with Israel and UAE. Inclusion of Taiwan in the Quad (or will it be called Pentagone) will be interesting

Joint statement from yesterday's meeting :
On 12 October, the 7th round of
Senior Commanders meeting of
India and China was held in
Chushul. The two sides had a
sincere, in-depth and constructive
exchange of views on
disengagement along the Line of
Actual Control in the Western
Sector of India-China border areas.
They were of the view that these
discussions were positive,
constructive and had enhanced
understanding of each other's
positions. Both sides agreed to
maintain dialogue and
communication through military
and diplomatic channels, and arrive
at a mutually acceptable solution
for disengagement as early as
possible. Both sides agreed to
earnestly implement the important
understandings reached by the
leaders of the two countries, not to
turn differences into disputes, and
jointly safeguard peace and
tranquility in the border areas.
Since I used OCR so forgive me for that text-alignment part.

Bat eaters finally admit officially that main reason for standoff is our rapid infrastructural development under Modi Sarkar.
They can sincerely f**k off, all of J&K + Ladakh is ours including AP, they are the ones who are illegally occupying it, also, nobody gives a shiet about them tbh, BRO has identity 100+ further places where new bridges will be built they are free to whine and cry, whole world other than their napaki slaves hates these bat muncher, also, Indian media is a f**king retard, f**kers were pushing for 1959 without realising that it's a ploy, whole Aksai Chin belongs to India.
China has been barking about this even before all this happened. Maybe we should return the favour to them by ditching our shitty One China Policy.

In microprocessors, there is a NO OP instruction that does nothing but spend cycles. What we are witnessing is military NO OP meetings. We have had 14 "sincere, indepth and constructive" meetings during which the standoff situation has progressively worsened. Maybe we need "insincere, shallow and destructive" meetings in future

When time comes, GoI will let us know about GB. until then why should we get into mood swings of elation & disappointment based on our personal wishes.

As things stand today, our current new problem is LAC, hence my comments were on this subject.
