Forget RaGa . The timing for such a leak was not right but it’s a pertinently question from a non political view. If true It’s a hangover from colonial times. There are lot of colonial traditions that need to be done away with. But then again RaGa is the last person that should be asking that question as successive congress govts didn’t do anything about it.

I feel there are some major problem reforms needed in the armed forces across the board.

Depsang is the real worry. After what happened in 2013 proactive steps should have been taken to secure those areas. Even if the Chinese withdraw from Pangong as part of a deal I feel they may continue to sit in Depsang. It is of more strategic importance to them.

He wants Indian Jawan to be served bread instead of Roti. His concern is to Christinise the food of Indian Jawans - give them loaf of bread rather than Roti or Paratha so that he remains down perpetually with constipation. Thank god he did not insist on Indian jawan being served with Ham, Bacon, Salami, Pork, and Beef.

Which is the place in India where main food item of the population is baked bread?
Indian Army Jawans are divided in two categories - Wheat consumers or Rice consumers with dal and vegetables being the main items. Meat, eggs and milk are the main calory providers.

In a place like the heights of Ladakh, officers do not get bread made in Leh or Chandigarh and units or ASC battalions do not run bakeries in field. In high altitude areas where constipation is a major issue, one can imagine what will happen if the entire unit is served European bread,

I doubt, baking bread in the field with Kerosine is possible as the main means of cooking, warming and drying is kerosine. Moreover, the cooking is resorted to at Company and even platoon levels as per the strength of the post. I wonder how can one run bakeries at such levels. One requires firewood or cooking Coal and an oven for that.

Pappu is a Ghunt and so are his advisors like Shukla who has never ever served at a post. Knowing food habits of Indians is but rudimentary. He has no idea how soldiers manage their food at separated and isolated posts where there is no cook and the Kerosine stove is the only means of cooking food, There are jawans who eat rice three times a day and there are troops who eat Chapati three times a day.
