Modular approach may be good but how is the assembly being done? F35 has a Flow to Takt manufacturing implementation which means almost like a car production facility for faster roll out which means quality checks, engine integration , avionics integration and fuel checks etc done under the same roof.

F-35 assembly is under one roof, in Dallas Fort Worth area. The parts are made in different places.

A modular approach will allow several companies to make the parts and assembly can be done by HAL under one roof. It is better to use several suppliers, especially private contractors. HAL LCA already has several private contractors.

Hmmm orders planned for f35 is about roughly 2000+ hence there rolling production facility would be apt.. and Modular approach towards AMCA can be gud provided there has to be checks placed on foreign collaborators in the production of critical parts. It is expected that the level of indigenous content will be high in AMCA , But for example SAMTEL does not come up with Larger MFD's in time chances are that Foreign collaborators will be roped in and they should be held accountable for any delays.

An approach like this can make or break a project of such huge scale.. IAF has to put its full weight behind this project !!!

Nice ! Modular approach will ensure faster development+production+assembly+quality control+quick upgrades. Seems MoD and HAL doesn't want to delay the AMCA.
Just planning & planning.

Till now no budget has been released.

Since modular approach encourages competition so it's highly unlikely that any company will underperform.

Just planning & planning.

Till now no budget has been released.
Current govt is preferring the indigenous equipments, so don't worry a good budget will released soon.

We should look out at what China is doing but should not jump into anything. One should work to its potential and try to make out the best of it. We can't crank up our industries overnight like chinese do. Not at least till democracy is there (hope you understand what I mean) :biggrin2:.

I am not sure, if this article should be taken in a negative way. Design is continuous evolutionary process . This article should be taken seriously only when ADA confirms it has completed the design process, else it is just a critique article.
As a rule , you should never take anything posted in IDRW seriously. i dont know why they have kept the word Research in their name IDRW.
Only aerodynamic configuration with stealth compliance has been finalized, others are just educational graphics,

AMCA Design for infernal weapons bay not yet finalized BUT where is DEVELOPMENT FUND ?

and here it begins

Effort to rundown AMCA even before the project commencement

Now these journos who cant tell what type of engine is fitted on Nirbhay ( in one articel one journo mentioned that Nirbhay has TURBO PROP engine) will now look at , analyse 3D images and tell us likely problems in the AMCA

:bs:

if they are so capable they should be immediately included in the ADA HAL AMCA project team to rectify the defects and given to materialse the project in double quick time

At long last.... some serious/specific information regarding engine development.

http://www.defencetalk.com/us-to-help-india-develop-engine-for-gen-5-fighter-carrier-66075/

...India’s Defence R&D Organization (DRDO) believes it essential to work with US company General Electric Aviation (GE) in up-rating its F-414S6 engine into the so-called F-414 Enhanced Engine, which would power the futuristic AMCA.

As Business Standard reported earlier (June 1, “Carter to face Indian demand for engine technology”), GE has been eager to partner DRDO in this lucrative project. But the US government had earlier stood in the way, reluctant to transfer to India strategic technologies, such as the high-melting-point alloys needed to build the gas turbine.

During Parrikar’s visit, Washington signaled that it has changed its mind. “Secretary (of Defense Ashton) Carter informed Minister Parrikar that in light of the strengthening relationship between the United States and India, the (US Department of Defense) has updated its policy on gas turbine engine technology transfer to India. As a result of this policy update, the Secretary is confident that the United States will be able to expand cooperation in production and design of jet engine components,” says the joint statement issued on Friday by the Indian Embassy in Washington.

That opens the doors for GE and DRDO to work together in uprating the F-414S6 engine, which India has already selected for the indigenous Tejas Mark II. This will enhance the current engine’s peak power of 90 KiloNewtons (KN), delivering 110 KN of thrust. The AMCA’s twin F-414 Enhanced Engine will thus deliver an awesome 220 KM of peak power...

Israeli Defence Analyst urges Jerusalem to invest in India’s AMCA over American F-35

Israeli Defence Analyst Caroline B. Glick who served has Captain in Israel Defense Forces in her latest report has urged Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in effort to maintain Israel’s qualitative edge against Iran should not depend on American solely on supply fighter jet after US administration rejected Israel’s requests for additional F-15 systems which it could have used to defend against Iran attacks.

US administration also has rejected Israel’s request to outfit its own electronics systems and bunker buster bombs in its current fleet of F-15 and instead wants Israel to buy F-35 which has been facing technical issues and will take next few years to fully become operationalised.

Analyst argues that F-35 is an impressive next generation fighter. But at the same time, as Aaron Lerner from IMRA news aggregation service noted this week, the F-35 suffers from one major weakness that arguably cancels out all of its advantages. That weakness is the F-35’s operational dependence on software laboratories and logistics support computers located in the US.

She also explains that All F-35 aircraft operating across the world will have to update their mission data files and their Autonomic Logistic Information System (ALIS) profiles before and after every sortie, to ensure that onboard systems are programmed with the latest available operational data and that ALIS is kept permanently informed of each aircraft’s technical status and maintenance requirements.“ALIS can, and has, prevented aircraft taking off because of an incomplete data file.

F-35’s continuous dependence on a US-based logistics system is a critical weakness is that it would be irresponsible of Israel to trust that the US will not abuse its power to undermine and block IAF operations.

In light of the F-35s massive vulnerabilities and the diminishment of US power in the Middle East and beyond, Netanyahu should view India’s enthusiasm for Israeli systems as an opportunity to end the IAF’s utter dependence on increasingly undependable US systems.

Analyst urges that procurement of the 14 additional F-35s, Netanyahu should offer Modi to jointly develop a next-generation AMCA fighter jet based on the Lavi.

^^Well said, Israel & India are already working on many projects, can't say how much possibility/prospects this could have but if properly envisaged it could prove to be a very challenging AC for any 5th gen AC. Just two paisas...

..
Most of the European countries are banking on F-35. But many flaws have been pointed out by many experts in the US and Canadian defense circles. Mainly how cost-ineffective a stealth fighter is going to be and how it lacks in performance.

Hope India learns from mistakes in JSF Program and also our own Tejas program so as to build a pragmatic, operationally viable and practical stealth design.

Does anybody know if any Radar Absorbant Material being researched in India?
