I think the only airforce which will operate a frontline Russian and Western fighter - IAF could care less about which is "better", Rafale or the MKI.
I like the Rafale a lot, but have doubts about how it will survive beyond 2030, when 5th gen becomes the norm.
At least, it will be huge advantage till 2030. What if we face any war before?

Rafale with its improvements will still be a match with the saturation of 5th gen F-15SE, F-35 and PAK FAs into the market. Unless someone puts an F-22 class fighter into wide production, it will still be relevant until 2040s when it retires.

Each vendor got their report back from the Indian technical evaluation, those fighters didn't have problems with their radars.
Nope. Tellis does not have access to the tech evaluation. The only ones we know are the ones already in the media.

The fact when MRCA arrives, it will be the most capable and sophisticated aircraft in the IAF.
Tell that to the IAF chief. It will be news for him. Heck we have officers openly saying the MRCA fighters will still not match the upgraded MKIs any time soon.

LOL. Nope. Thales is already making 3 different sizes of AESA radars and it take 3 years. It isn't physics but skill and everyone knows Thales has it. You cannot compare the R&D budget of France which is ten times higher than India or Russia.
Would like a link please. And I don't want one with a ground radar, aerostat and AWACS radars. I want fighter aircraft radars.
However the PAKFA has a combined budget and I was talking about our combined budget for PAKFA and a whole host of other projects with everybody. R&D is calculated using PPP for Russia for obvious reasons. Same for France. Not as much for India though because of imports.

No mate, All Su-30 will be upgraded to super Su standard
Exactly, which includes an airframe overhaul and structural changes at thea heavy weapon stations and that's why all new and upgraded MKIs will be able to carry weapons like Brahmos, or Nirbhay in future.

Actually only 40 super Su will have a strengthened hardpoint to carry Brahmos or maybe Nirbhay and that hardpoint is in the center of fuselage.

IAF's Sukhois to roar close to Pakistan border

IAF's Sukhois to roar close to Pakistan border

Indian Air Force pilots prepare for a night drill ahead of Air Force Day celebrations in Kalikunda airbase of IAF around 170 KM west of Kolkata - AFP

India's topline Sukhoi Su-30 combat planes will permanently roar over Rajasthan's skies, with the Indian Air Force deploying from Saturday a squadron of the air superiority fighter jets at the Jodhpur air base, from where the Pakistan border is a mere two minute flight away.

"This will be the first time a squadron of the Su-30MKI aircraft is being based in Rajasthan, that too close to Pakistan border," a defence ministry official told IANS here Friday.

With the induction of the Sukhoi squadron in Rajasthan, the Indian Air Force's (IAF) strike capability has been ramped up considerably.

"The squadron will formally assume its duties with effect from October 1 from Jodhpur air base," defence spokesperson at Jodhpur Col. S.D. Goswami said.

"The squadron taking to the Western sector skies - with its lethal strike force, multi-role function and weaponry carrying capability - will give unassailable advantage to IAF in this sector," Goswami said.

The twin-engined Russian-origin Sukhoi Su-30, with a capacity to touch 2 Mach or 2,450 kmph speeds, are now produced under licence in India.

These war birds are set to get deadlier with the integration of the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile very soon. The aircraft has a range of 5,200 km and a capacity to carry 8,000 kg of warheads.

The Sukhoi squadron will have 16 aircraft in its inventory.

The planes have
already arrived Jodhpur from Pune in Maharashtra, where they were previously based, officials said.

Is IAF squadron strength being reduced from 20 to 16 aircraft now? It is actually not a bad idea with depleting squadron numbers to spread them around a little. I always thought it a bit high when a regiment is 24.

Normally 15-20 per squadron. Depends on requirement and availability.

Won't the eastern front be a more suitable location?
This 40 MKI with air-variant brahmos will be for western front (Jodhpur and Halwara). This will come in our inventory by 1st half of 2013.

There will be 3 more squadron By 2014 end or mid 2015. They will be operational at Panagarh (West Bengal), Kalaikunda (West Bengal), Jorhat (Assam) [Eastern Side]. 1st 2 will be forward base like Bareilley and Pune one for Western Side.

-- This is most likely but there can be some changes.
