Su 30 MKI Crashes

List of crashes

1. 30 April 2009 in the Pokhran region of Rajasthan - I pilot Killed

Grounded Time - 3 Weeks
Problem Found - the crash was caused by the incorrect position of critical switches behind the pilots and outside their field of view.
Result - Critical switches identified by investigators were inhibited

2. 30 November 2009 in Jathegaon, Jaisalmer - Crew safe

Grounded Time - unknown
Problem Found - It was attributed to accidental ingestion of a foreign material in the engine intake
Result -

3. 13 December 2011 in Wade-Bholai village near Pune - crew safe

Grounded Time - unknown
Problem found - reports said that the crash was due to a malfunction in the fly-by-wire system
Result -

4. 19 February 2013 - near Pokhran - crew safe

Grounded Time - unknown
Problem found - Mechanical, the aircraft's right wing exploded
Result -

5. 14 October 2014 - near Lohegaon, Pune - crew safe

Grounded Time - 30 days
Problem found - the Su-30MKI ejected both of its operators without prior warning due to a fault in the ejection system

6. 19 May 2015 - near Tezpur - Crew safe

Also during Red flag 08, the Americans found foreign material in the Sukhoi Engine, which leads into 60 sec delay. the same problem which cause the crash in next year, Su 30 Crashed near Jaislamer

Over 2 decades of service and only this many crashes? Have to trust the system.

I have heard that the IAF pilots fly more hours than most AFs worldwide. If so it understandable the machine fatigue may cause more accidents. So, please refrain from panic mongering.

Correction : Americans did not find anything, our guys were trying to avoid FOD hence the 60 second delay. Just to be on safe side, incase of breakdown due to FOD at that point in time aircraft had to be shifted to Russia to Russia. Now a days that may no longer the case we are doing complete overhaul ourselves. Our guys were being cautious. If i remember correctly each red flag exercise costs us about 1000 crores, why take the risk.
