They may be just an ammo company but atleast they’ve built a facility and ready for orders, they’ve also built a testing and shooting range in their facility . I still don’t see a facility of SSS Defence-CBC for making ammo in India , so far only PR is seen.

Their ammo is being used for ASMI trials as per Alpha Defence.

Lt Col. Bansod is a very talented guy. Asmi is his 2nd project with help from ARDE. Earlier he designed the Insas Bullpup.
Give him the Sig-716 (i and G2 version) and SCAR to study, he will come up with another rifle design.

He knows what he is upto.I don't think many in OFB can find the difference between long stroke and short stroke piston systems

I agree with your sentiment overall.

But technically OFB was manufacturing SLR's which was a short stroke piston system till 90s.

We should atleast have an AR-15 Family of Rifles for production both SS and DI.

Ak and SLR that is OFB cream.they are not willing to move from that even aesthetically in gun designs

SLR and G3 were gem rifles of that time, I’m happy that IA went for a 7.62x51mm gun so that we remain future ready as in today’s day even america is going for a rifle cartridge and intermediate cartridge is facing the same fate which once SMG cartridges were during WWII. We definitely need Battle Rifles, Assault Rifles and Carbines all together to form a complete package, but 5.45x39 is a great round wonder why we never adopted it, Better muzzle velocity, better kinetic energy, better accuracy, better recoil and cheaper to produce compared to 5.56x45.

The problem with OFB is not just coming out with new designs. They lack R&D and is just a production agency.

Their main problem is quality control. They can fuck up rifle designs of the 40s like AK-47 with their poor quality workmanship. The main design feature was is long stroke piston system and the BCG both dereived from AK-47. It was supposed to be an extremely reliable rifle, and thus cleared Army trials. However, when production variants came out, all sorts of QC issues propped up.

Thus even if you give TOT to OFB about advanced guns like Ar-15, AK-15, HK-416, SCAR, Sig-MCX etc., they will still screw it up, and IA will get a malfunctioning rifle.
