It will take a whole decade for us to move to this round considering that if we simply cancel AK deal we still have chance.

If USA move to this round then there is a strong case for us too. Meanwhile Siberia is going for 6.5 *39 round .

Even if they use a simple AK pattern rifle for this round in carbine and assault role they can end the need of different rounds.

In their interview with Livefist Journo he did mentioned that both are on offer.

😓 Regarding 6.x mm rounds in IA, trust me i personally have literally whined so much behind this whole thing, ask @aditya10r he can tell, from Rene Strudler saga ruining FN FAL to emergence of 5.56x45mm and what not,
there is explanation-reply to be written here but feeling of gloom took over me again and maybe i won't be able to say much for now, maybe later

As for SSS offering AR i will just say will believe in it when it happens...there is a whole thread here on their previous antics and based on that i personally could not believe them much.

Out of curiosity

I want to ask why so much doubt in the case of SSS ?

You I believe are a gun enthusiast and very knowledgeable on the same.

I am zero in this , yet I know this much that gun making is related to pedigree . One cannot simply wake up and come up with a good gun . It takes decades of experience ie pedigree built over decades and centuries.

In our country we don't have gum culture nor hunting culture , so we don't have the background of sorts unlike US , SA etc who use the same to develop their gunsmith skills.

Coming to point SSS will need help , however , whatever it might be to get into this gun making business , so if they are riding on the pedigree of others as long as they own the ipr of the designs , I don't see a problem. Over a period of time , once it becomes economically sustainable and they gather experience they can gradually switch over to own developed designs. This is one of the easier way to build pedigree slowly but surely by riding on others.

Infact in manufacturing sector many indian companies have become big by initially riding on the efforts of others. Economic sustainably for a product which requires niche talent is a big barrier usually unless one takes outside help.

Eg.
Royal Enfield , foreign designs first , over decades now own designs.

This is just my personal opinion , nothing against your opinion ,respect it too , am just putting a counter view across.

WRT SSS Defence, they are following the right path imo. Their AR are just a PR stunt, their real flagship products (at least so far) would be their sniper rifles. They are continuously improving the design. Their focus going to be to develop a bolt-action precision rifle first and then move to other, more complex, stuff. We've seen at least two iterations of their .338 and .308 bolt action rifles. The biggest difference between them aside from the aesthetics was a new 'action', i.e. bolt design (gross generalisation, action means overall firing mechanism in bolt action guns), or so they claim.

An example of 'wrong path', in contrast, would be the Kaveri debacle, where there was an insurmountable learning curve (the projected specs were unachievable due to lack of prior R&D on engine tech).

There may be hope for SSSD in the sniper rifle tender (its on import negative list) in the near future, and even other weapon systems in the future (if this AK-203 joke deal goes through, army'll be begging for a replacement in 10 years tops. Wayyy too many problems with it, it is also approaching obsolescence). Speaking of weapon systems, SSSD has also designed day 5-25x magnification sight and thermal night vision scope for their sniper rifles.

Car 816 was the l1 at the second tender but it still cost must more than sig716.that was one of the main reasons for terminations of the deal.if sig can lower the prize of their mcx sbr rifle then sig has a chance.

MCX is twice as costly as AK-203, MCX is a Special Forces firearm not an infantry weapon, if it costs more then it’s domestic production will be beneficial as India will be making those.

Do you know how much a SCAR-H costs? 3-4 AK-203s.

Ethiopian army is small, they don’t have issue procuring them. We should clone the SCAR-H we already use in huge numbers and FN should be Blacklisted by MoD.

Don’t go by Youtube Videos, SCAR-H is the best gun in its caliber.
