WTF!!! They officially said that price was renegotiated between ₹250-275 crores & maintanence/support separately... The ₹45000 is the combined package, not $50mil for each plane.
The article mentions: "Prices mentions are estimated costs since the deal will also include 3 simulator cost and additional infrastructure cost which was required to set up an additional production line which also includes investment cost of research and development of upgraded Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft."
... then how is it cost of the aircraft? If IAF grows a brain and orders more FOC Tejas between 2020 & 2023 they'll coat even lesser.
IDRW should have put the disclaimef on top of the article, not bottom.
Tejas having more double Su-30's lifetime & half its maintenance cost is completely different advantage.
Flyaway cost of plane generally includes r&d and manufacturing plant/ line costs.
Support package is extra which is maintainance , Availablity over 70% , performance guarantee , spares and weaponary. If these things are not included in 45K Cr package then I'm afraid 50 million is the unit cost.
But it's all speculation still. The solution to minimize costs is to ofcourse order more planes.
But I realize lately IAF doesn't want a smaller airframe in huge numbers and has selected mwf as the optimum size for backbone of airforce. Although 40 for mk1a should be ordered to amortize costs and fill in squadron gaps faster.
