Thanks Bon Plan.... So Malaysia too interested?? seems they always buy what India buys, Flankers, Fulcrums and now Rafales... Both uses scorpeans too but I think Malaysians opted earlier than us for it.
A firm offer for 18 Rafale was made last year to Malaysia. We are waiting the answer.

In France we read that there is a link between the choice of India and what Malaysia order. So cross fingers for Rafale again :)

What about Canada and Singapore, they have delayed their F 35 purchase. Russian are offering Su 35 to Singapore. What about Finland, they to will replace their F 18 hornet.
Canada ? I'm afraid it's a US fighter land. Probably not in a F35 form, but more probably in a SH18....
Singapore? Why not. I'm not very aware about this country.
Finland? Possible. But few political and commercial links between France and Finland.... But the product is perfectly suited.

Rafale deal: Reliance, Dassault Aviation set up joint venture
New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) In a major deal for Indias private defence industry, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group and Rafale maker Dassault Aviation today announced a joint venture (JV) that will be a "key player" in execution of offset contract worth about Rs 22,000 crore as part of the fighter jet deal.

The announcement of the JV, Dassault Reliance Aerospace, comes within days of India and France on September 23 signing an agreement for 36 Rafale fighter jets at a value of euro 7.87 billion, or about Rs 59,000 crore.

The agreement includes a 50 per cent offset obligation, the largest-ever offset contract in the history of India.
The main point of the offset agreement is 74 per cent of it has to be imported from India, which means direct business worth around Rs 22,000 crore.

The offset, spread over seven years, will be finalised soon.

There is also a technology-sharing component, which is being discussed with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Other companies involved in the Rafale deal include French firms MBDA and Thales, besides Safran, which too will be part of the overall offset obligation.

The Dassault Reliance Aerospace joint venture will be a key player in the execution of offset obligations, a joint statement by the companies said.

The development has come as a boost to the Reliance Group, which entered the defence sector only in January 2015.
"This new joint venture called Dassault Reliance Aerospace will support Prime Minister Modis Make in India and Skill India policies and develop major Indian programmes with high levels of technology transfer to benefit the entire aerospace sector," it added.

The proposed strategic partnership between Dassault and Reliance will also focus on promoting research and development projects under the IDDM programme (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured), a new initiative of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

"The formation of this joint venture with Reliance Aerospace led by Anil Ambanis Reliance Group illustrates our strong commitment to establish ourselves in India and develop strategic industrial partnerships under the Make in India policy promoted by the Indian government," Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation Chairman and CEO said.

"We are delighted to partner a world leader in aviation like Dassault Aviation. This is a transformational moment for the Indian aerospace sector and Reliance Infrastructures subsidiary Reliance Aerospace," said Anil Ambani, Chairman of the Reliance Group

This explains why they were decided on the Rafale from day one, its nuclear strike role. And it explains the small numbers, how many nuclear weapons would need to be delivered?
In France all the nuclear squad are fully trained to do another role (the nuclear posture is made for non use, and you show your force one time every... 10 years? so it's nice to use it on classical missions).

If India will use Rafale for nuclear deterrence, it will use it for classical missions too. If not why ordering SCALP, Exocet, Laser targeting pods....?

These 36 will show India Rafale can do eveything. So India will baught some more.

India may get Rafale jets sooner than 36 months
India has requested France to deliver Rafale fighter aircraft as fast as possible, says defence minister Manohar Parrikar

Pune: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that India may start getting Rafale fighter aircraft from France earlier than the agreed-upon 36 months.
“As per terms of the deal it is 36 months (during which the delivery has to start), but it may come slightly earlier. We have requested them to (deliver it) as fast as possible,” he said.
On 23 September, India and France signed the €7.87-billion (Rs.59,000 crore approximately) deal for Rafale fighter jets, equipped with latest missiles and weapon system besides multiple India-specific modifications that will give the IAF greater “potency” over arch rival Pakistan.
The ‘vanila price’ (just of the aircraft alone) will cost about €91 million each for a single seater and about €94 million for a two seater trainer aircraft.
Parrikar also said that a 12-member committee to suggest structural changes in the military on cutting down flab and reducing revenue (maintenance) expenditure will soon submit its report. The committee is headed by Lt Gen (Retd) D.B. Shekatkar.

Well they are serious about defense industry, look at their efforts in naval domain . They might be thinking about next 30 years , it's a hell of a business to build expertise.

Considering the local sourcing clause, is the Rafale the best way for Indian Industry to gain expertise for next generation fighters(5th)? I read somewhere that, Rafale is as good as 5th Gen without stealth.

Interesting comments by Air Chief Raha. Is another production line a bluff for a better deal for future Rafale? Or are they serious about it?

I think Saudi Typhoons will be slightly more advance than Rafales in Asia... I don't know if Indian F3 Rafales are equally good to Saudi Typhoons though

Any Air Force will be proud to have Rafale-class fighter jet: IAF chief Arup Raha
Giving a thumbs up to the recently signed Rafale deal, Indian Air Force chief Arup Raha has said that he would like to have more such fighter jets in the IAF.

Giving a thumbs up to the recently signed Rafale deal, Indian Air Force chief Arup Raha has said that he would like to have more such fighter jets in the IAF. “We would like to have more Rafale fighters, however the decision will be taken in the near future depending on the capabilities,” Arup Raha said today. “Any Air force will be proud to have an aircraft of Rafale class. I am proud that the contract has been signed,” he added expressing confidence in the strike capabilities of the fighter jet that IAF will start getting in under 36 months.

The 7.878 billion Euros (Rs 59,000 crore) deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets was signed on September 23, and the new planes will give a big boost to IAF’s defence and strike power. The most important aspect of the deal, apart from the fact that the Rafale is a 4.5 generation fighter jet, is the firepower that India is getting in the form of long-range and Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles. Rafale fighter jets will come equipped with state-of-the-art missiles such as the Meteor and Scalp. The Meteor is a BVR air-to-air missile, with a range in excess of 150 km.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has hinted that the IAF may start getting the Rafale jets earlier than the time period of 36 months. With these missiles, the Rafale fighter jet will be a big strategic weapon in the hands of the IAF. The Meteor missile’s integration on the Rafale jets implies that IAF can now hit targets inside not only Pakistan but also across the northern and eastern borders, while still staying within India’s own territorial boundary.

The deal comes at a time when India faces heightened tensions with its neighbouring country Pakistan after the September 18 Uri attack. India has proof that the terrorists involved in the Uri attack came from Pakistan. To effectively retaliate and pre-empt future attacks, the Indian Army last week carried out surgical strikes across the LoC and destroyed many terrorist launch pads. This was the first time that the Indian government chose to come out in the open and declare that the Indian Army has carried out such an operation. Asked about the strikes, Raha said “Surgical strikes are very sensitive in nature. I won’t take any questions on the targeted operations.” However, Raha admitted that the Pathankot terror attack on the IAF base earlier this year has been a setback.

No way !
India can't afford 2 differents medium planes. And India choose the best of it.
Yes not only we can afford 2 different MRCA, it will also make our air force look like a zoo... F-16 and F-18 are out of question and Gripen too will not be selected due to American engine... Okay to buy US choppers, transport planes, artillery but fighter jet is front line offensive system and for that matter I think India will trust France more than US... Its certainly going to be additional Rafales for MII...
