which ever western companies win american always get their share of pieWell that has little affect since critical tech like Spectra's secretive radar components still come from the US. Lots of radar, targeting and safety systems come from the US. Furthermore with such a large purchase chances are its weapons pack will be mostly American.
Eggs and one basket scenario comes into play/ hunt us WhenWOW !!! Putting all eggs in one basket ?
Lets make full boiled egg, half boiled egg, omlette, scrambled eggs, etc... no putting basket.WOW !!! Putting all eggs in one basket ?
the Spectra EW suite is a collaborative effort between Thales France and MBDA France and is the first such system to have been developed in France that covers the electromagnetic, laser and Infra-Red (IR) domains.which ever western companies win american always get their share of pie
No critical equipment has been bought from the US ever. Transport aircraft and LPDs are not critical. Apache may be so, but the numbers ordered will not dent IAF's capabilities if sanctioned.Ahh, well then shzit- India has already spent billions on critical hardware from the US. should have thought about that paranoia many years back.
Rafale IMO. Maybe a Rafale IN or some India specific designation.then what names we will be using ?
Get them to build the Autobahn in India. With Russia we always have Pak-fa, with Israel missiles, and a range of products from US.
But now how do we placate ze germans ?
The fat lady is yet to sing. The deal is not done until the contract is signed. What we know today is that Rafale is the L1 bidder. But, if the aircraft has been chosen or not is still up to MoF and possibly the MEA. If the MEA comes in to the picture we don't know what may happen. L1 or L2 won't matter then. This deal has totally upset the European defence industry.
France has got much needed billions, they can continue to innovate for the forseeable future.
UK, Italy, Spain are in cutback mode; Germany wouldn't want to go it alone ?
We will know where Russia stands once we get IAF's input on MKIs upgrades in a few years. Considering IAF will be exposed to the best from both east and the west, they will be able to provide the most impartial judgement. Currently according to IAF pilots, the upgraded MKI will be superior to anything flying in our skies until PAKFA comes in, even after MRCA is done. The avionics development is hitting dead ends. If they can't match mechanical to electrical engineering, they will either have to outsource to Thales or cancel the project.
The 1800Km being mentioned in the thread is combat radius. Range should be twice that. But this is when Rafale is doing a deep penetration mission with a heavy payload. The EF and F-16 specs are theoretical range figures with modest payloads.Pardon my ignorance, but isn't 1,800 km a very short range ???
Considering 1) EFT has 3790 km
2) F16 has 4,200km (with drop tanks)
Just a comparison, but isn't the range too short ?
Same here man!Life is indeed a JOKE
Till today afternoon I used to check the Internet every few hours regularly
And just when I get too busy with work this BIGGEST News comes along
 for missing the live and breaking news
We have many eggs now and in multiple baskets. Some in Russia, some in France, some in Israel, some in the US and some in DRDO.WOW !!! Putting all eggs in one basket ?
As for the Snecma JV, GTRE has requested the govt to release $2.5Billion initially.SNECMA JV = ?

"The first MMRCA built in HAL should roll out in 2017-18.
Thereafter, HAL will deliver six jets per year, which will go up to 20 per year later. HAL will achieve 85% technology absorption by the end," said a source.
Both MoD and IAF are confident there are "enough safeguards'' built into the project, which includes "performance-based logistics'', to ensure India "gets the best machine, spares and product support".
First let them have some money in their banks....now three tenders are left:
1. 80 jets additional MRCA,
2. Indian Navy jets.
3. 40 SFS jets tender.
Some country is going to be bankrupt big time trying to match us.
