MLUs would decrease in costs when more units are purchased by other countries. Rafale is an expensive aircraft, more than twice what MKI costs.
We want to use Rafales up to 2050, maybe more. MLU discussions may start 10 years after first induction, so that's around 2027-28, with first MLU aircraft ready in 15 years after first induction. Countries that go for Rafale today will become part of those MLUs in total so upgrade costs will be lower.
Brazil has a requirement for 36 jets now, but had options for as many as 100 more. So, it was supposed to be a big deal.
