ok folks we talk scrap this scrap that invest billions and billions for indigenous products rather spend them foreign countries agreed we need indigenous development, but

do we really have the intellectual work force . have we developed enough cutting edge products or tech so that we can just develop a fifth generation fighter when we are struggling to develop a jet engine. At least do we have a decent tank engine of our own though we got some top class if not best heavy vehicle manufacturing companies , did the govt in any point of time encourage or allotted funds to develop it with our own private industries none . Instead of blacklisting every bloody company why don't just we take steps to stop the corruption .

i don't think any company loosing anything if black listed in the long term except some losses , but its we who are the biggest loosers , we blacklist a company because we accepted bribes from them good it's we who took the money in the first place , its we who didn't stick to the rules in the first place , we missed golden chances as far as aviation industry development is concerned

India participated in the development of a jet fighter and jet engine in Egypt from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. Nehru saw cooperation with Egypt as being complementary to India's own efforts at developing an indigenous aerospace industry.

According to one account, Nehru's India "participated in Egypt's 'Helena' HA-300 jet fighter program http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helwan_HA-300
and sent various professionals from its aeronautics industry and the Indian Air Force on detached service to Egypt, where they joined the local aircraft project.

India also participated – with contributions of money, experts and equipment – in Egypt's attempt to produce an indigenous jet turbine engine, the 'Brandner E-300'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandner_E-300

Critically, Nehru hoped that this engine would have a viable market by pledging to power India's own indigenous jet fighter, the HAL HF-24 "Marut," with the Egyptian engine.

Although the projects did not succeed, they underlined Nehru's deep interest in defence collaboration with friends and political partners, notwithstanding his opposition to military

for some weird reason we abandoned everything and started to buy

Things are going fine...We are talking about billions! Companies are careful...
this deal never be canceled, India needs good ToT and only deal of this magnitude can provide decent ToT, nobody is going to provide
ToT for $2 billion deal. but $20 billion deal, and you can extract a decent amout of ToT.

Dassault To Incorporate Major Upgrades To Rafale F3R

While attending the 9th edition of LAAD, aircraft-maker Dassault Aviation has promised to deliver the most wide-ranging material to be incorporated on the Rafale aircraft which is in the running for the Brazilin F-X2 program.
According to reports, the Rafale is being upgraded to a new standard with major software upgrades and will known as the Rafale F3R. The upgrade will complement the enhanced Thales RBE2 active electronically-scanned array (AESA) radar which will allow the aircraft to deploy the MBDA Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), along with affording improvements to the aircraft's Thales SPECTRA self-defence system and Mode-5/Mode-S-compatible Identification Friend or Foe interrogator/transponder.

In 2012, the French defence procurement agency (DGA) revealed that it awarded a contract to Dassault to complete a risk reduction study for an upgrade of the Rafale combat. The first production Rafale, equipped with the RBE2 radar, was handed over to the DGA in October and is currently undergoing flight testing. Meanwhile, weapons separation tests of the Meteor missile were completed with the Rafale during the same month.
The French Air Force recently took delivery of the first Rafale aircraft equipped with AESA radar RBE2 and completed the final qualifying phase of the laser-guided AASM variant, the SBU-54.
Both combined with the latest generation of missile warning systems and various improvements in human-machine interface made the game omnirole become even more efficient, lethal, sustainable, reliable and easy to maintain.
The AESA radar technology RBE2 also adds a number of operating improvements to the aircraft, as increased by about 50% of the range and improve the ability of the radar. The angular coverage is improved, enhancing the ability to detect targets of smaller signature.

Since the final qualification tests of the SBU-54 variant of the AASM "Hammer" was performed and completed in 2012, the French armed forces have begun using the weapon accurately this year. HAMMER is equipped with a docked tail and a range extension kit, which includes a powerful rocket engine and wings with automatic opening. Thanks to its reach long distances (over 60 km for a launch at high altitude, or 15 km if launched at low altitude), it is possible to achieve air defense systems and keep safely out of reach. Even more important is the ability to engage six different targets in a single pass. With the AASM, the Rafale does not have to overfly the target to perform its task accurately.

Last year, the first test firing of the missile propulsion Ramjet Meteor paved the way for the adoption of new advanced tactical air defense superiority and self-sufficiency, which will revolutionize the way Rafales operating in air-to-air mode. The test firing of Meteor missiles complement the compatibility tests with aircraft carriers, already made in nuclear ship Charles de Gaulle, to ensure that the new missile support the shocks associated with catapult launches and landings aboard. Its part of an overall program of integration that will culminate with the entry into service of the new Meteor missile, in 2018, which will provide a zone of guaranteed success many times larger than the current missile.

Other improvements ordered by the French Ministry of Defence include the Mode 5 IFF, link data with advanced collision avoidance systems, the new generation targeting pods (target designator) of Thales and its new features such as an increased ability to identify and overview of collateral damage.

I agree with author's view point, we must cancel M-MRCA or RAFALE deal and instead spend quite a chunk of that 15-20 billion USD on development of AMCA and for AURA. FGFA is more than enough to provide us technology for both the programs.

More SU-30MKIs can be purchased as fillers.

4th generation fighters and that M-MRCA requirement was relevant when enemy was expected to have relatively inferior 4th gen fighters. Now case is not such today, enemy is expected to have fifth generation fighters by same time RAFALEs would enter as M-MRCA in IAF that after spending such hefty sum.

You spend huge money to gain edge over the enemy not to ensure sure loss by purchasing inferior.

Cancel Rafale and contract for PAK FAs, even if one example comes for the price of two Rafale. PAK FA is future and will give IAF edge and competency unlike Rafale which will lose front line status the day J-20 is inducted and that day wont be far separated.

Re: ADA LCA Tejas - IV

Sorry to post that here (about jaguar), but someone asked me a question, i would really love to answer ...

so what in the Jaguar cockpit indicates to the pilot that he is airborne? Is it audio, a glareshield light, a HUD indicator..?
Please !

MICA NG IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT

Page 28: Work studies about the future Mica NG started at MBDA, Thales and Sagem.

- Same mechanical and electrical interface and same outer envelope for direct integration on Rafale without additional cost.
- New Roxel engine with double pulse in order to conserve energy at the end of flight.
- Increased range with more propellant.
- New gyroscope for more accuracy in inertial guidance phase.
- Improved infrared seeker with increased resolution.
- Improved radar seeker
- "Third party targeting" under consideration.
- Funding already secured for the next three years.

Redundance with Meteor? no, because of short-range performance and lower cost.

So a Izdeliye 179 level missile, eh?

80Km range with larger seeker array.

Would be expensive though.

Yes at least we should increase the number of FGFAs to be inducted and speedup the acquisiton process. As For Rafales they can be left for tackling Chinese J 10s & Pakistani F16 Block 54s. Going by the way IAF fighter squardons are shrinking we can't afford to cancel any such deal. Yes, we can still switch to Eurofighter Typhoons if we smack corruption in Rafale deal.

Why can't that be addressed by opening another SU-30MKI line?

A filler is a filler anyway and SU-30MKI scores better on point of quick delivery and operational( no need it already is). In fact this option will address problem of strength depletion at least 2 years earlier than any new design. No?

yes.. we still need to get 120+ su-mki's for IAF.... and that number 250+ MKI's will be suffient to take role of attack considering the threat. But rafale will defintely give us good advanatge in many other aspects. it's very good in BVR engaging , faster n smaller compared to MKI's which will make it much more agile (it has higher TWR also) and Maneuverable too.. so it has it's own advantages compared to MKI's.. and more over we still need them as multi role aircrafts not as attck option. who knows , IAF might have good plans for these fighters in coming years.
If rafales get obselaate in future so as MKI's.. and in fifth generation fighting environment MKI's wont stand a chance agianst 5th gen fighters cause of very high RCS. so if IAF can operate MKI for another 20 yrs , they can do same with rafales also.
