Sorry to contradict you, but Stobar capability of rafale has been studied and confirmed by Dassault
CATOBAR aircraft can do STOBAR. Little issues there. The problem is viceversa.

Anyway we need CATOBAR capable aircraft.

@hello_10

There is no news about Mig-29K carrying Mig-35 electronics. Are you speculating?

Also, there is no real news about IN's decision about nuclear power on IAC-2. They are still designing the carrier. We will know more after a few years, not earlier.

It will require a hell lot of work by the Govt and hell lot of political will to get this deal through, the last big deal that was signed had that...

More numbers would have direct influence on the contract price.

Any idea when India will get the first of the off-the-shelf Rafales?
Probably 2 years after signature as first deliveries should be twin seated for training and none is built atm. No def clue although

France wants Indian to exercise Rafale options immediately

During a two-day official visit to Paris earlier this month, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid was apprised of the French Government's keenness that India exercise options for 63 additional Dassault Aviation Rafale fighters alongside the primary under-negotiation contract for 126 jets under the medium multirole combat aircraft (MMRCA) competition.

The 63 additional jets are mandatorily available to the MoD as part of a 50 per cent options clause attached to the main agreement under negotiation. If the MoD decides to exercise options, the additional jets will be contracted under a separate contract agreement, and not clubbed with the main agreement for 126 jets. It is understood that the issue came up in discussions with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius as well as with French President François Hollande. After his meeting with the French Foreign Minister, Salman Khurshid is quoted to have said, "We know good French wine takes time to mature and so do good contracts", when asked about when a deal was expected to be signed. Contract negotiations are currently ongoing. Recently, following queries raised by Dassault Aviation, it was clarified in no uncertain terms by the MoD that the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited would be the lead integrator of 108 Rafales in Bengaluru.

Not so many atm : GPS/INS, + IR or + laser kits. Rest is price of the bomb in itself.

The bomb by itself is cheap. It is the rocket motor, seeker and the guidance kit that makes the difference.

The laser seeker and guidance kit on an American bomb on a glide bomb (80Km) is around $10000, apart from the price of the bomb. The SDB, with rocket motor costs $40000, including the bomb.

AASM costs at least 170000 Euros for the price quoted for 220 units. Of course, there is no way of telling how many of which version was purchased. So, the price should be above or below $170000 depending on the seeker. The IIR seeker should be the most expensive.

Dassault, Elbit to ring BEL at Aero India

Military technology major Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is likely to ink an MoU with Dassault, which recently won the contract for 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) Rafale fighter jets.

Sources told Express that the proposed MoU, likely to be signed during Aero India 2013, will be different from BEL's existing JV with Thales. The MoU will get propelled when India's Ministry of Defence signs the Rafale deal officially with Dassault. The MoU will enable BEL get onboard Rafale for the integration of the synthetic aperture radars (SAR) and electronic warfare (EW) suits, among others.:D

During the show, BEL is also likely to sign an MoU with Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop Ltd, Israel, for the joint development of compact multi-purpose advance stabilisation system (CoMPASS), for naval applications.

Sources said the Indian Navy has opted for CoMPASS in tune with the modernisation of its costal surveillance plans. BEL might get into a transfer of technology (ToT) pact with Elbit, to develop some critical airborne applications.

When contacted, BEL chairman and managing director Anil Kumar, however, didn't want to get into the details of the MoUs. "At the show, we are focusing mainly on our strengths in Network Centric Warfare (NCW) activities. With several major defence purchases in the final phase of decision making, we expect global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their vendors to be on the look-out for Indian offset partners," Anil Kumar said.

He said the show-stopper for BEL will be the homegrown SCA (Software Communication Architecture)-compliant Software Defined Radio (SDR), in various forms and to be used on different platforms by the Indian defence forces. "We will display cutting-edge technologies developed indigenously for NCW systems like: computing elements in various form factors, right from wrist-wearable computers, hand-held computers and tablet PCs to rugged laptops," he said.

BEL chief said his company will be showcasing more mature homegrown defence technologies and solutions at the show. "We intend to showcase our strengths and present our preparedness to address the offset business to the prospective foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) during the show," he said.

i dont think it is right to understimate the role of BEL regarding this rafale deal ,research part by RCI & LRDE has nothing to do with rafale until they sign a deal with thales regarding this MMRCA deal
