I hope in wake of Doklam issue, Indian Army would have done soul searching. They must have realized that they cannot keep rejecting indigenous guns which are of good quality. Foreign guns can't come in near future. So they have to approve indigenous guns and let their bulk production start.
Those in charge of procurement/approval are not in the Doklam but sitting comfortably somewhere else and busy planning some global tender.

India Gets Its First Indigenous Sniper Rifle From West Bengal: All You Need to Know

Ishapore Ordnance Factory received orders from Central Reserve Police Force, Haryana and Rajasthan Police.

The rifle can shoot the target up to 800 Metres. [Representational Image]

Kolkata, August 30: After using German sniper rifles Heckler & Koch for decades, India got its own sniper rifle from Ordnance Factory Ishapore in West Bengal. The new rifle is likely to eliminate country’s dependence on importing rifles from other manufacturers abroad.

Kolkata Police will be introducing it to services after it is tested by a group of commandos. Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar told NDTV, “You won’t see the sniper rifle out on the streets. If you can spot one, we have not done our job.”

Here’s all you need to know

  • The Ishapore sniper costs Rs. 2.5 lakh plus taxes.
  • The rifle has a calibre of 7.62 mm and weighs 6.7 kg.
  • The rifle can shoot the target up to 800 Metres.
  • The biggest advantage of the rifle is the abundance of indigenous ammunition.
  • Kolkata Police will be introducing it to services after testing.
  • Ishapore Ordnance Factory received orders from Central Reserve Police Force, Haryana and Rajasthan Police.
  • The rifle will be important for urban police for VIP protection, hostage situations and terror attacks.
  • The research and development for the sniper was done at Ishapore for more than a year.
  • The factory also produced INSAS rifle which is used by many forces.

800 metres seriously :rofl:that too from 200 year old factory
[--Removed--] Selvam, what else do you expect from 7.62x51 rifle? 50BMG anti material rifle can hit upto 2km and even 3km with elevation. But, expecting a 7.62x51 to hit 1km+ is stupid. It replaced dragunov, heckler and koch, and Israeli snipers which also had 800m range

Looks too short to be a sniper rifle.

Maybe a carbine.

Or they messed up the article,as this gun doesn't seems OFB made to me.

The Ordnance Factory Board [OFB] of India is getting ready to supply its all-new new Sniper Rifle to an undisclosed customer ( CRPF ). It, recently, floated a couple of tenders seeking accessories for the rifle. One is a '3-12x50 Grade Telescope with Eye Relief & Mil Dot'. The other, a '9-13" Tilt Adjustment Smooth Leg Bipod'. It has expressed a requirement of 85 of each. Some time back, it had floated a related tender for suitable Rifle casing solution, possibly, for storage & transportation of the firearm. The OFB's Rifle Factory Ishapore is the lead organisation in the project.
The OFB built this, 7.62 mm bullet firing rifle, in response to a 2012 Indian Army-issued GSQR. It strikes a disconsonant note, when viewed alongside IA's recent requirement of a Sniper rifle firing more powerful 8.6 mm bullets. A flip-flop approach towards acquisition, helping no one.

Yeah,Ishapore Rifles are quite famous in western gun markets.

Like Kunal Dada said once somewhere here,we should've converted these Ishapore 2A1s into bolt action sniper rifles, similar to those L42 Lee-Enfield Sniper Rifles which were used by SAS and other commonwealth armies.

Edit: Indeed OFB had produced a sniper variant of Ishapore 2A1,but it seems like many other guns made by OFB/DRDO it went in vain.

That's only a representational image. It's an Ishapore Enfield Scout modification...probably made overseas.

The rifle in question is the one who's pics @Kunal Biswas posted.

Ofbs should increase prices of their small arms such as assoult rifles and carbines to make themselves competitive not only in quality but also in price in international arm market. Their products are very less in price as compare to other comparable products available in international arm market. They also need to infuse some corporate culture amongst themselves like strengthening of their commercial wings etc so that they are able to market their product not only domestically but also internationally.

All those National players competing in 10ms air-rifle competitions hold only these guns, the reputed makers are Walther and Feinwerkbau..

If i am correct Russian SVD in US cost around 7000$, In that sense a bolt action 7.62x51mm sniper rifle with match trigger and adjustable stock along with chromed lined barrel cost around 3,800$ is cheaper, It will get more cheaper if their are more orders ..

OFB already makes sniper grade 7.62x51mm ammunition ..

2.5 lakhs for air rifle  who will buy those toys with that much money
