Thats interesting, we thought Gorshky will be carrying mig-29 all these days. Infact India did acquire Mig29s for Gorshky. If we had to deploy PAK FA why did we order Mig 29s in the first place. Besides few days back report surfaced that Pakfa will delay for a year or more. Hope it doesnt affect Gorshky delivery date.

As per the information given by Indian Defence Minister AK Antony in the parliament, regarding the acquisition of aircraft carrier 'Admiral Gorshkov' from Russia, the delivery of the ship has been planned for December 2012.

A team of Indian specialists comprising of officers, sailors and civilian personnel have been deputed to Russia as part overseeing team who are constantly monitoring the progress of work onboard the ship. Additionally, the Refit work is being monitored through regular project reviews at the shipyard by sending composite delegation.

Pilots being made air-ready for INS Vikramaditya

Panaji: The defence ministry has begun the process of getting Indian fighter pilots ready to operate from aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, which is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy in the next two years, an official said Monday.

The chairman of the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vineet Bakshi, said the defence ministry-certified shipyard was in the process of setting up a shore-based testing facility (SBTF) for future pilots in Goa, in partnership with the Bangalore-based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).

"This unique test facility is being set up with technology and specialised equipment from Russia. This facility will enable future pilots to be trained ashore before they fly the war planes from aircraft carrier Vikramaditya," Bakshi, a former rear admiral said.

He said pilots flying the MIG-29 fighters would also be trained at the facility being built at the naval base INS Hansa in Goa.

The Navy veteran further said that the SBTF would also enable Indian Navy's indigenously developed light combat aircraft (LCA) "to reach its logical operational capabilities".

INS Vikramaditya is the re-christened former Soviet aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, which has been procured by India recently and is a modified Type 1143 Kiev class aircraft carrier built in 1978-1982 in Ukraine

It is projected to replace India's only currently serving aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

Indian Navy's LCA will replace the ageing fleet of Sea Harriers which are being currently operated by the maritime force.

Gorshkov"s cost includes $ 29 million to Indian specialists

Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier bought from Russia finally cost India $ 2.33 billion, out of which $ 29 million was paid toward services rendered by Indian specialists and another $ 85 million for repair technical documentation. India had early this year agreed to pay $ 2.33 billion, over three times the $ 974 million it had signed a contract for the 45,000-tonne warship in 2004, after a three-year negotiation. "The $ 29 million was paid for stationing 40-odd Indian Navy personnel in Russia for over five years since 2004 to assist, monitor and work on the repair and re-equipping of Gorshkov," a Navy officer said here today. "The $ 85 million for repair technical documentation was for buying all detailed charts, diagrams and instructions for the machinery and equipment that are on-board Gorshkov," the officer said. The technical documentation was bought as a complete set right away because Gorshkov, rechristened INS Vikramaditya would be the only warship of its class that India was buying from Russia. Its delivery is scheduled for end of 2012. "With these documents, India can carry on with repair and maintenance of the warship within India independently without having to send the aircraft carrier back to Russia, as we do in the case of Kilo class submarines," he said. The documentation cost would be much lower than the maintenance and repair cost of the warship if it had to go to Russia for the purpose, leave alone the cost of sailing there and returning to India, he added.

Sorry to say u like this friends,
In india many shipyards are in debts and looking for orders, including Hindustan shipyard Visakhapatnam (recently Ministry of Defence is to take over the Hindustan Shipyard)
In spite india beeing capable of building our own indigenous AirCarft carrier it is waste to give order to Russia
By indigenous technologies, it can show direct and indirect employment to thousands of people

We needs many projects like INS Vikrant
in long term INS Vikramaditya cant survive our needs because there will be some restrictions imposed on purchased/leased defence ships

MOD has to shell out the extra money because of their wrong estimation. We can not blame russia for that. In the field of defence technologies nothing comes for free or for good relations, as it costs to the developer. Thease are highly technical war machines, which has been developed after years of R&D and huge investments. So do not expect any body to give it to you for free. MOD should have acted wisely while inspecting & estimating the repaire work involved. Any way we are getting important knowhow about aircraft carrier but at a higher price beacuse of OUR fault. Let us not BLAME others for our misjudgements.
This is the world of diplomacy & interests there is nothing like good or bad relation in strategic scenario.

The price of the carrier is within what the navy says is acceptable.. For all we curse our defence procurement, Indian negotiators are known to be hard bargainers who dont give an inch. India was just naive when they thought they would get the carrier for free. 2.33 which includes the first 12 MiGs is pretty much acceptable. The only thing not acceptable is the delay.

The estimation was done by Russia and not India. So, India is not at fault for mis-estimation.

Paperwork will cost India $85m

India will shell out about $85 million for "repair technical documentation" and about $29 million for "services to Indian specialists" as part of the overall US$2.3 billion for acquisition of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier from Russia but defence sources on Wednesday justified the costs.
Confirming these figures, defence sources in New Delhi, however, said, "There is a huge amount of documentation required and being transferred for operation and maintenance of the carrier. So far as the services to Indian specialists is concerned, this is the cost that the Russians have incurred while paying for the accommodation and transportation of Indian naval personnel who were in Russia for the Gorshkov's refitting project."
India currently has only one aircraft carrier in operation. It is acquiring the Gorshkov as its second aircraft carrier and is also building an indigenous aircraft carrier that will serve as its third aircraft carrier.A report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) last year had criticised the acquisition of the Admiral Gorshkov.

Vikramaditya Mooring Trials Early 2011, Indian Review Team Notes More Slippages

The photograph above shows Vice Admiral NN Kumar, the Indian Navy's Controller Warship Production & Acquisition, at the Sevmash shipyard last month (leading the Indian Review Team), getting a guided tour of the Vikramaditya (formerly Admiral Gorshkov). The refurbished STOBAR aircraft carrier faces mooring trials in less than six months.

Vice Admiral Kumar's team of observers did, however, note several delays in scheduled refit tasks, serious enough for him to call a meeting with representatives of the JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation, JSC Sevmash, Nevskoye Planning & Design Bureau, the Electropribor Research Institute and of course, Rosoboronexport. Sources say Vice Admiral Kumar has asked for all the earmarked tasks to be put on the fast-track, and to be completed before the next visit by the Indian Review Team in January 2011.
