Good video on why are cities are sooo bad, even when controlled for GDP per capita :

without watching the video, first thought was, let me guess "it's all gormint's fault, it's all system's fault".

didn't pay too much attention to this mohak's background before... interesting bio
turns out he is the new amartya sen in training as poverty entrepreneur.

based out of palo alto
education : singapore, yale , stanford
work history : poverty action lab founded by Esther Duflow, wife of abhijit banerjee, both 2019 nobel prize winners for "fighting poverty".
wife : "climate change" entrepreneur.

basically life is set for this fellow, he is going to handle/manage millions/billions of $ of other people's money in his lifetime.

Good for him, dude seems much more reasonable that all other so called development economists. And no, he doesn't just say govt. bad, in fact as I have pointed out many times here, that Indian cities are much dirtier than other poorer country cities, he points that out as well.

He points out the major issue, that our city govt. have no power. Governance in India is super centralized at state level , this is because no state govt. wants to give up tax collected from cities as they use that to give freebies to buy votes from rural areas. No other major country works like this.

being a socialist, i can recognise a few familiar tunes.

that's what their brand of developmental economics is, build a narrative premised on problem statements, while profiting from the narrative. i took the pain of watching the video, and there were atleast 15 ads without skip button for this one video, i.e his revenue stream.

his data sources are, hindu, scroll, TISS, may be quint as well.

if you like what he is saying, you are his target audience i.e you are the product.

most of the points he is discussing, was discussed in this thread as well . but if you notice, while focussing on the faults, he skipped the part on the projects past and present in those cities. his brand of developmental economics, do not want to recognise complexities of problem solving in real world conditions.

to get an idea on what complexities the real problem solvers have to deal with(video below). by the time the real problem solvers solve one problem, which takes years of efforts and lots of finance, chances are mohak will have made 10 times more money than ashwini bhide earns in the same period.

Ah! Park Circus! The Ms out there attempted a Shaheen Bagh lite.

Good video on why are cities are sooo bad, even when controlled for GDP per capita :

Without clicking the link;

Function of
A. Lack of State Capacity,
B. Population density.

Higher population density requires increased state capacity to sort out hard and soft infra; GDP per capita is NOT the only factor at play.

India is where socialism infra gone wrong. All thanks to babudom and no gulags for corrupt.

must watch

Soviets had oil and gas to bank on; stuffs that fueled their post world war era boom. Vishwaguru flirted with socialism despite lacking resources - worst of both worlds. Corruption etc were secondary.

There is a severe risk of this repeating in Uttarakhand again. Even Kerala is at risk due to the 100+ year old Mullaperiyar dam at risk of collapse. A smaller incident happened in MH last year which barely made news which killed 100 people. What is the progress of soil protection schemes and landslide prevention installations and warning systems?

You know in either of Western-Style Systems or Soviet-Style Systems, there is a consequence for doing Jhumla. In Western-Style, you will be fired immediately or your company gets bankrupted. In Soviet-Style you will go to Gulag. The Insidious thing is Indian babugiri neither has firing/bankrupt nor gulag. They created a system where they always win.

dumb indian leftists keep bringing this up to cope about their congress masters not building anything. Ultimately this figure is misleading as it includes 2 lane "highways", so the only figure that counts is the length of 4+ lane roads. here are the compiled lengths from NHAI for 4+ lane highway length

1999 - ?? <100km
2006 - 7980 km
2011 March - 17,182km
2013 - 19,128km
2015 March - 21,201km
2017 Jan - 25,689km
2021 March - 37,085km
2023 Nov - 46,179 km

2030 target - 75,000km

poverty entrepreneurs and social conflict entrepreneurs will exist, that's not the surprising bit.
for me the surprising bit is that, even after being made aware of ground realities, folks fall for these scams.

confirmation bias is such a powerful tool, that it overrides rational thought.

Gangetic belt people have single handedly ruined India's image by being what they simply are...
another way to explain the same sentence.

owing to fertile soil of gangetic belt, population density has always been higher than rest of the India, this along with low industrialisation because of voters electing socialist parties meant that GSDP per capita being lowest in the country for a long time. weak governance systems resulted in relative low prosperity which in turn led to low public awareness in urban etiquette.

if prosperity rises that region, more generations get educated, lesser the occurrences of indiscipline.

UP in particular is still in early stages of developmental cycle, they are only now recognising importance of law and order. many stages yet to go to reach saturation across the region, given the scale and size of the region.

nope he is backup copy of DR. A redundancy. Since DR is successful in shaping opinion, be ready for more real and virtual variants on Social Media.
