Unpopular opinion, but LCH should also be utilized by BSF, CRPF and ITBP, since the forces operate at an environment, where attack helicopters are of necessity

BSF is just for border manning not for combat. ITBP is toothless police with no bullet firing agreement with China. CRPF is involved in COIN and govt will never allow aerial combat assests to be used on our own people in our own soil

Sad how GoI has been delaying projects for long. 25 years since Kargil, its not even ordered yet. Not even CCS approval.
HAL built 15 airframes with their own funds projected IAF and Army to use it who were fighting for their candy Apache helicopters but Galwan happened and govt took those 3 airframes to Ladhak to do photo ops and now after 5 years LCH hasn’t put on mass production or inducted in numbers

Well they'll need customer's placing orders en masse to start mass producing, till then there'll only be LSP!
Meanwhile IA n IAF are drooling over apache's and is reluctant to buy indigenous stuff:drool::confused1:

These are mere numbers should need more than 156 for sure. Hope they place more orders in future LCH will be great asset and force multiplier and can wreck havoc combined with Apache
100+ rudra are already present
156+15 lsp will be more than enough as we already have apaches with longbow radar

What we need is a full fledge combat drone

Would 156 nos. be required if our military fought jointly?
It is almost a 7 to 8 fold jump over the number of gunships that the IAF and IA had throughout the 1980s and 1990s. That number never exceeded 35 at any time.

Now we have nearly 90 Rudra WSI gunships that the IA is using and in addition there are the 22 Apaches in the IAF plus 6 in the IA, and with an additional 156 Prachand LCH for the IAF and IA, the number of gunships is eventually going to be around 280.

My point is why does IAF need attack helicopters? If the army and IAF will perform the same function with them why not have only one military branch induct it?

In India anything files should come under IAF. IAF even tried to claim Navy aviation assets should be operated by them 😂
Western militaries largely keep their attack helicopters under the army. Only Russia is a major military where attack helicopters are under the airforce.

And IAF sticking to their traditions even crashed an Apache which it can't even recover at such heights.
