What are the air defences systems we operate and what's their range? And number of them?
And mobile air defence for the moving columns?

One Spyder SAM system was spotted in Halwara during Presidential visit.

December 2017 Halwara Air Base.
Spyder SAM on Tatra Chasis in deployed condition.

After Balakot, according to news items two more Spyder engagements took place
1) Naliya AFS, Gujarat shooting down a drone
2) Srinagar AFS, JK (The speculated blue on blue incident involving Mi-17)

http://deshgujarat.com/2019/02/26/pakistani-uav-shot-down-near-international-border-in-kutch/

Way back I had noticed a SAM battery at Naliya AFS and mistook it as an Akash battery. So since news reports do mention Naliya AFS and Spyder shoot down its clear that Naliya has got Spyder and also older Pechoras.

The deployment makes sense since both Halwara and Naliya are in vicinity of Israeli supplied aerostats having AESA radars (Elta-2083 perhaps). Also Naliya was the first airbase to get an Elta-2084 land based AESA radar in 2011.

An interesting snap. Probably Akash SAM (3 missile non-cannister configuration). Not 100% sure sure. But its not Pune, Gwalior and the other 6 NE bases.
Rather a western base.
And AFAIK only 8 squadrons were ordered. 7 more are under negotiation.
Not Army Akash (IAF Long trailers)
Early 2017 date.

It will be interesting to see how Barak-8 MRSAMs are deployed. It is more likely that they will be deployed across plains of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab. However no news has trickled in about MRSAMs being inducted.

The follow on order of Akash will also boost up our air defenses. Many forward airbases seem to be inadequately protected.

Since Pak PM Imran Khan had said that they were expecting missile strikes, its possible that these drones were probing for missile deployments.

P.S. all info is from open news sources and Google Earth imagery which is pretty unmissable to any defense enthusiast.

Article says
Defense sources told Sputnik delivery of Russian Aerostats radar (most likely developed by RosAeroSystems) is expected to start in a few months and will be fitted with Rafael's EL/M-2083 early-warning radars. India will replace its age-old air defense system at six air bases and some other critical locations along its western border with SPYDER, which will replace Soviet-era OSA-AKM and ZRK-BD Strela-10M
So perhaps we will have Spyders being used along with Pechora/Akash as already observed.

Additional orders

When asked about the status of the additional Akash squadrons already cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council, Gowtama said the orders will be placed soon.

“Additional orders for seven squadrons worth around Rs 6000 crore is expected any time soon. This again shows the confidence the users have in the indigenous SAM system,” Gowtama added.

Our Air Defense is pretty much obsolete except that bulky Akash missile.
We need a seperate air defence command.
From Manning anti ballistic missiles to the point defence.
Sick of this multiple parties involved.
We need multiple layers manned by one command.
1)Anti ballistic missile
2) Long range SAM S-400
3)Barak 8 100km range
4) A 50km Range static air defence
5)A mobile SAM with range up to 30km like TOR missile system to protect the integrated battle groups which are on the move
6)Point defence like Pantsir or Biho to protect armored column, convey movement,SAM or radar sites.
7) Last but not the least Gatling gun 20 or 30mm to stop barrage of MLRS

All of these are in late stages of development.
1) BMD system has already completed phase 1 and is in phase 2.
2) XRSAM is in works for long range. But long range has limits due to enemy planes being able to detect SAM anf hence evade easily due to distance. Long range SAM may not really be useful in battle except to take down AEWACS & transport planes
3) We already have Barak8 with 80km and is being indigenised progressively. In 4-5 years, we will have indigenous MRSAM & LRSAM
4)50km air defence is Akash NG. Will be ready in 4-5 years
5) QRSAM is the mobile SAM and is almost ready
6) We have the local AAA guns with radar and are getting BIHO soon with some TOT to upgrade. But this is only a last and desperate line of defence
7) CIWS system is already in India but defending MLRS is something I have never heard before. There is a reason why Israel uses Iron dome missile instead of CIWS despite CIWS being cheaper. CIWS doesn't work most of the time

Do you know if the Elta-2083 is installed on the DRDO Akashdeep/Nakshatra system or on Israeli Aerostats?

Can't say for sure.

Most news mention Russian Aerostats even for the supposed follow on order for more such radars. The aerostat itself isn't from Israel, but the radar mounted on aerostat is Israeli. Just like our Phalcon AWACS having Israeli Radar on Russian Il-76

https://defenceforumindia.com/forum/threads/russian-offer-aerostats-radar-for-indian-border.78632/

News reports also mention Reliance having tied up with foreign companies for aerostats.

I have some questions.

Where does S-400 fit in?

Can XRSAM be an alternative to S-400?

You are claiming Barak 8 LRSAM/MRSAM is being indegenised. Is it the seeker that remains to be indigenised or the algorithm/programming or both? plz put some light on this.

Can Akash NG be seen as an offshoot of Barak-8 or and Akash missile?

S400 is both BMD & SAM. If I am right, it involves some TOT for indigenisation of BMD & XRSAM. But this part is speculation as it is secretive.

Barak8 as of now is partially Indiqn, especially dual pulse motor & launcher. But seeker and MFSTAR radar is Israeli. So, indigenisation of radar is priority. We already have seeker made for Brahmos, Akash 1S etc but don't have radar.

Akash NG is dual pulsed and can be considered as similar to Barak8. I can't say if it qualifies to be called an offshoot

Two little known villages in Alwar and Pali districts will soon gain strategic importance as they have been selected by the Defence Ministry’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for setting up radars to track enemy missiles.

The forest department has cleared the acquisition of 850 hectares of land in Khoa in Alwar district and 350 hectares in Roopnagar for installing ballistic missile defence grid that will protect the western and northern parts of the country.
^^
Good progress in both sites from 2019 GE images.
Lets hope defenses for Mumbai come up soon.

IACCS Progress by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)

Phase I :
As of September 2015
The Indian Air Force has already established 5 nodes of the IACCS in the western sector facing Pakistan at
Barnala (Punjab),
Wadsar (Gujarat),
Aya Nagar (Delhi),
Jodhpur (Rajasthan)
Ambala (Haryana)

Phase II :
4 new nodes and 10 new sub-nodes will come

While 3 nodes will be deployed in eastern, central and southern India, the fourth is meant for A&N Islands

https://economictimes.indiatimes.co...mmand-control-system/articleshow/49079201.cms

New IACCS node at AFS Memaura (Central Air Command)

https://www.indiastrategic.in/2018/...ing-in-chief-central-air-command-inaugurated/
Lucknow, August 2, 2018: Air Marshal SBP Sinha PVSM AVSM VM Air Officer Commanding in Chief Central Air Command, inaugurated Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) at Air Force Station Memaura through video conferencing on August 2, 2018. IACCS was inducted in Indian Air Force in year 2009. The system at Air Force Station Memaura is the upgraded version and has been inducted into Central Air Command for the first time.

I think A&N IACCS would be fully operational after BSNL links A&N with Opical Fiber Cable from India by 2020. Port Blair already has top of the line radars installed.

2019 controversy: Irregularities by BEL in IACCS implementation

https://www.firstpost.com/india/bel...-defence-officials-under-scanner-6414261.html

https://www.dnaindia.com/india/repo...t-norms-to-favour-private-firm-report-2735884
The matter of irregularities came to limelight when a few IACCS sites under construction had collapsed.
The IACCS centres would probably be hardened/underground facilities. So this news is indeed troubling.

More about the collapse:
The inquiry report said walls at the site of another project collapsed twice due to the soil conditions being different from what were assessed by the design consultant when the SOP for excavation was formulated. BEL had to get the soil analysed independently by the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru at its own expense.

Why are we buying NASAMS ? Isn't it similar to Barak-8 MRSAM?

its raining Air-Defense systems in India. Sit back and enjoy the show.

India will soon have safest skies in Asia, making paki air power useless in future wars.
