Honestly do we need another SF battalion? IMO shouldn’t be raising additional “Airborne” battalions. Already we struggle to equip the existing SF battalions properly and also manage commonality and uniformity among SF battalions.
Hope that he mistakenly put the SF infront, BTW we dont even have a 13 Airborne battalion what are they converting into SF? Generally the preferred way is to convert the Airborne into SF no?

Do we have an existing 13 Para battalion?

Fuck are we raising a new SF battalion
Honestly at this point you can only believe these people are mentally stunted, their current SF units are still pathetically equipped from the last major SF expansion ( converting airborne to SF) and
they are still going?

they want more PARA SF than green berets with 1/20th the budget,I wonder where this is going to head

It’s beyond a joke. They would rather expand numbers (and thus dilute abilities) than enhance capabilities of existing units. It took >15 years for all SF battalions to get Tavors after they expanded last time

they haven’t even got the basics right (central selection and training)

So more guys running around with SF tabs but African militia equipment is a good thing for the IA? Absolute clowns running the Indian military

May be, just may be this 13th Para may be our version of a Tier 1 unit with good funding. May be the M4 wielding unit we saw in two encounters are now officially the 13th and will be equipped/trained and deployed as a true Tier 1 unit. I know that's a lot of copium.

This is retarded if true.

Please be untrue.

We should be raising more paratrooper units if anything. Our SF already outnumbers the paratroopers and this will further make the units incapable of anything more than a token paratrooper operation.

It's almost like some officer somewhere is obsessed with degrading our SFs or something.

Like you said it’s pure copium

Those M4s have been speculated by fanboys as AFSOD and now 13th? They’ve been identified by people that know as 9th in reality

I don’t see any reason whatsoever to think they will be anything more than another vanilla SF btn, a tier 1 unit would have to be completely separate from the para regiment

all this does is further dilute the IA’s SF capabilities and render them more and more as elite infantry/airborne

what other army in the world has more SF personnel than paratroopers? It’s a farce

Nope, airborne's been diluting and canibalizing the SF battalions for a while now. We don't need numbers for special operations, most of which happen at the company level at best. This is a consequence of negligent and reckless expansion, that too from a frontier that is rapidly loosing it's relevance. Airborne is useful in the mountains, but mostly for offset lateral infiltrations using helos. The days of mass drops to start off a conflict are mostly dead, maybe once air-supremacy has been obtained or you have enough info to confirm a lack of A²/AD in the vicinity, you could mass drop some paras near the immediate objective for a surruptitious assault.

Kill me in my sleep.

Seriously, I was very hopeful of this being a rumor.
Start the RR boys. (Not Rashtriya Rifles. The other RR.)

Still, there's a HUGE difference in having the option and not using it and not having the capability when it may be needed.
Not to mention that we haven't seen a true all-out, peer to peer, modern, non-nuclear (or nuclear for that matter but let's ignore that for the time being) conflict just yet so we can't say conclusively how essential or redundant that capability is.
