First of all , is this like a verified report and not some SOF napper's Wet Dream .
Second of all , why ?
Cayuse and Littlebirds were used by SF operators for insertion on rooftops in an urban area . But we never used choppers for such an op . A light transport helicopter has always been used for easing the loads Para SF Operators till their destination point closest to their objective , in cross-border or high elevation raids . E.g. Operation Randoori Behak and Myanmar strike 2015.
Why are people giving absurd reactions? And no this isn’t useless, its not that Special Forces will operate only in Jammu Kashmir, NE jungles and stuff, tomorrow if a war breaks out (something for which militaries worldwide prepare) and especially on the western borders like Pakistan and along the LoC in Pakistan occupied Kashmir there will be tonnes and tonnes of houses which will be occupied by Jihadis. Its not that others don’t use light helos for insertion, they do but ultra light helos like Little Bird and Cayuse are for rooftop insertions and rapid infiltration and exfiltration in urban warfare, and can provide real time close air support as well. Has a solid use for Naval Special Operations like in Anti-Piracy ops. Usecase is different. Thats a different thing that it is just a “piece of news” by Janes and its unclear whether they will be purchased or not, but if they are then its great.

A $1.4bn contract was secured from the US Army in September 2017 for the delivery of 150 MD 530 helicopters and support services to army aviation forces of the US and partner nations over a period of five years. The contract supports the foreign military sales (FMS) opportunities of the US Army.
It costs ₹70 crores a helo which is a bit expensive compared to the standard ALH Dhruv but the cost quoted included the helos (which are armed as well) and the support services (spares and maintenance).

Definitely a great helo but would be the usability is limited to a potential full scale war with Pakistan, While the Primary zone of conflict current and future seems to be the J&K, Ladakh and NE. LUH wont be THE Best option there but could be utilized.

Its mainly for special forces not conventional military usage. People online are over reacting.

We have been using cheetas for this purpose for a long time now, we have specifically built the LUH to replace these old helicopters. Going to a US company for this is stupid when we have homegrown solutions.

Talking in the sense of specs only mate, getting a new heptr even only for AFSOD means a complete new supply line to back it up while in our case our SF units work to support the conventional forces in peer to peer conflicts so we are not looking at landing on top of houses in Lahore right now. We dont have the resources to have a complete new supply line + some heptrs for a specific standalone task. And i am certain this is gonna end in the same way as the THAAD/NASAMS and other deals. Best bet cope up with LUH or if the production line of Cheetah/Chetak is still running modernize and utilize it since we dont have the resources in excess.

LUH, with a few modifications will be more than capable of getting the job done.

Single engine helicopters are on the import ban list.

Yeah met one in the YouTube . Spent 15 mins trying to explain this guy , what it means to conduct helo insertions and how much time it would actually take to develop such a chopper locally with HAL's assistance

Do we even need to spend billions on the military when they’re more interested in Chai Biskoot on the east and Aman ki Asha on the west? It is required mainly for dedicated Special Operations Aviation units for Special Forces, they’re different from conventional forces. I’m not saying they will be bought or they won’t but we do need dedicated aircrafts for SF if we want to see them enhance their capabilities, and ignore the wikipedia page, the helicopter is being used by 17 countries already.
