I mean criticism is good but saying that "everyone is a commando" and giving the example of CRPFs ONLY commando unit which has only 10000 personnel compared to the overall strength of CRPFs 3 lakh personnel is absolutely ridiculous.

Sometimes I feel like people on this thread complain only for the sake of complaining.
They are not special forces, they are SWAT units at most.
most of the complainants here are valid, going Jai Ho on everything makes us as bad as the pakis.

Awesome find mate..ofcourse SPG get the good stuff first.
Cant wait to see some helmets.
With these guys I don't think we will ever see helmets unless something serious has gone down, their SOPs seem to be to operate without helmets during everyday deployments. Only when there's a reason to will they gear up.

I hope they revisit this in the future as at least the CAT/SIU guys should be in a high state of readiness at all times, their desire to keep a low profile without the helmets is misplaced. The last thing you want to do is scramble to put your helmet on once you're in contact. It's not even like they have their helmets strapped to them so they'd first have to go find them, then strap up. Just a poor process all around for an otherwise solid unit.

What makes these guys legit is no elbow pads.😂
And every man has a radio, don't think even PARA (SF) have moved beyond section/squad level communications.

I *think* NSG are starting to move towards individual comns too but doubt they are fully there as of today.

This really does separate the professionals from the amateurs.

So what should be done? According to you CRPFs commando unit should be disbanded? Who will replace them? Not everyone is a commando.
Is this what I said? The point I'm making is 'commando' is a very specific MILITARY term, CoBRA are part of a police force, many other police units in India use this term both central and state. You can have specialist units but calling everyone 'Commandos' devalues the term.

Why do many state/central police SWAT type units wear "COMMANDO" badges? It makes no sense and makes them look both incompetent and inept. Similarly why do so many wear military fatigues/camouflage when they almost exclusively operate in urban settings?

Even calling NSG commandos seems unnecessary to me.

I would agree if the situation was not so unusual in India. CRPF is not your usual police unit though, is it? They are fighting naxal guerrillas, their nature makes them militarized enough to have their own commando force. Like the Colombians, they also have militarized police units fighting commie guerrilla groups and what not and they too have a commando unit within their "police" force.
