The whole "surgical strike" term stanning makes me cringe so hard.

Yes, that's why initially I confused the AFSOD with this.

If this ever enters the realm of reality it would possibly be out attempt at building a Tier I capability.

The one and only attempt so far and it seems like a solid plan, it just has to get made a reality. Such a small unit with direct access to senior echelons of the govt should be easy to get outfitted with the very very best kit in the world but they’ll have to be plugged into the ‘tier 1 network’ of NATO/five eyes to really get up to speed- the amount those units learn from and operate with each other has created very high standards and capabilities for all

Thing is it’s hard to track whether this were ever to become a reality as at least for the early years they won’t be spoken about officially.

let’s hope it wasn’t just another proposal to nowhere.

Function of tightened ROE and in fact the successes of the anti-infiltration grid. Terrorists are now using more opportunistic hit and run type tactics- a lot of the time they kill and get away before the security forces have even managed to get a round off. Just look at the last few weeks of grenade attacks; they took out countless people without being engaged.

Not an excuse though,just context.

in many ops they manage to inflict a 1:1 kill ratio which is horrendous but I do think the up-armouring we have seen in the last 2 years has shown positive results on the ground, 2020 and 2021 were the least bloody years for security forces in recent memory.

remains to be seen if this can be sustained as there’s no doubt dark times are coming back for Kashmir

Yeah anti infiltration grid is working wonders for us. A lot of BAT, and paki jihadis are now dying WHILE trying to infiltrate.

Can you please explain that how this particular unit is different from AFSOD ?

SOD is a command element. It is to test out the joint command concept across the entire SOF forces. SOD is supposed to function with 3000 soldiers across three different unitss. While the units will train together for jointness they will be different units (SF, Marcos, Garud)

That artical talks of a seperate 200 odd man unit where selection is open to all three SOF units but it will be one organic unit for independent taskinfs with their own intelligence, logistics and air support.
