Sir the whole deal is done after doing evaluations with USSOCOM... also the army recently ordered negevs for them so I don't think they would be having any problem in getting hands on those guns... Meanwhile talking about tonbo... what I think is that their quad tube nvg is not battle tested... So, what I think SF would go for buying dual tube from them whereas quad tube from USA....I don't know why SFs are insisting on going for SCAR H and SCAR L through FMS route. Based on the interviews of some former US SFs who has used SCAR in combat, that gun has a experiences a high vibration on the upper receiver group, which many times damages the optics placed on the top picatiiny rail. It requires specially certfied optics as any commercial off the shelf optics can get damaged.
Though this is a FMS route, still both SCAR variants will have a huge cost compared to HK-416 and 417. Hence better option is to go for HK guns.
Also, Mk 48 belt fed Light Machine Guns (LMGs) does not have any significant advantage over the Negev LMG that we are already importing in 16,000 quantity for regular army. Both are belt fed with Negev being lighter. This seems another aping the USSOCOM type purchase. The army order could easily have been increased to 16715 to cater for SF needs.
Also, 110 .50 Cal Browning heavy machine guns (HMG) is another purchase without any logic. We already are making Brownings HMG (38 kg), NSV(25 kg) in OFT.
Also, 400 helmet-mounted night vision systems can be sourced from Tombo, Imaging who makes both dual tube as well as quad tube NVG, whatever be the requirement.
Also, 100 Barret M107 A1 heavy sniping rifles (13.5 kg) is an inferior choice to the recently inducted M95 rifle (10.7) recently inducted by the Northern command who are extremely satisfied with its performance. This order could have been easily been clubbed together with the M-95 order.
