The desertion of ANA soldiers is not because they fear the the military power of Taliban. As in the past, the Taliban has always been successful in inducing the ANA soldiers, police on religious grounds on ther promise of upholding the Sharia law and make Afghanisthan an Islamic State.

Now the Aghan police and army's loyalty to Afghan government lies because they receive their monthly salaries. However, in their minds the cause of Ummah will always be bigger objective, and many switch will their loyalties at the drop of a hat.

The Afghan Special Forces are some of the most battle hardened SFs same goes for Iraq too(Golden division). Even their intelligence agency the NDS is also quite good. Their regular infantry generally is below average to bad depending on their commanders(some may be good depending on how effective and asser their commanders are). Their police specially outside of Kabul cannot be trusted and may defect to the taliban at the first sight of trouble. They also lack any form of meaningful armour regiments and artillery.

Oh they are good alright. But they do and have deserted in the past. There's entire Taliban groups wielding American small arms, right now with over 100 districts seized. Their special forces while to a lesser extent than the rest of the ANA, have been guilty of dropping arms.

NDS Special Forces? IA soldiers have deserted during the Kargil War and all other wars for that matter. US army soldiers have deserted. It happens in a large organisation, especially during conflicts.
