The FN scar for afsod was with fn us I think.I really think this news is real.recently NSG was showing of both scar H and L .I think they were trying to uniformly equip all indian special forces with scars just like what they did with the favour.but if this is true then I personally think army would go for m4 or another ar 15.

“The 7.62 x 51 mm FN Scar, made by a US unit of Belgium’s FN Herstal, is being purchased by the Army under its own financial powers and is roughly around Rs 200-300 crore,” confirmed a source...

That was the news frm June End..Now what Sandeep is talking about is a Deal of P90 worth 70Cr wid FN(Don't mention Belgian or American) which broke up in mid june..still more clarity will be helpful

This a quote from India today article by Sandeep unnithan

The exact reasons for FN’s refusal to supply the arms are unclear, but sources say it had to do with the firm’s concerns that their products would be used in Jammu and Kashmir. this quote

It looks like they are making wild guess. Imo due to pricing FN has walked out of this deal.

Now SFF are looking in American arms manufacture for the arms look like Sig, knight armament are the firm's SFF might be interested in specially Sig as they can provide Rifle in both 7.62x51mm and 5.56x45mm and they got SMG like mpx also. We might able to see MCX who knows. This is wild guess from my side.

Compilation of all Armasen gear

Damn, forgot its been superseded by the superior MCX

MCX has a price tag though... Vietus would cost nearly $2000. But they do make the M400 Tread. It is a downgraded DI version of the Sig 516. Which will be inadequate for SOF of course.

This is what happens, when we go for mindless import. IMHO, both H&K and FN Hershel should be banned by MOD. In the past, even giants like Rhinemetal and Denel was banned.

Also, like the MP5 clone developed by OFB called Anamika, DRDO/OFB should immediately copy the SCAR design from the already available rifles in service, if there is demand.

Even better is DRDO or private bigshots like PLR or Adani takes over the Astr defence rifle project. That rifle looks promising, but need more refining. Also, it needs a large production line if selected.

Another thing is P90 is chambered in 5.7*28 mm round that was designed as a NATO request for 9*19 mm replacement. Its intended purpose is PDW. Only application in SFF would be bodyguard role of Dalai Lama, not fighting in J&K.

We have such a round 5.56*30mm MINSAS on which both JVPC and Amogh is built. Both are suitable alternatives to P90 as well as MP5/MP7/MP9.

UAE is too business minded to do that. They just signed a peace deal with ISRAEL for shit's sake. They won't play this ummah chummah game.. And the large Indian diaspora in UAE will also play a big part.
For the short term (say another 5 years or so) maybe we can import but in the meantime, we should work on indigenous platforms, that should be the end goal without that you are always at mercy of one country or the other, which is not an ideal scenario at all.

If DRDO & Private Sector can sit down and put together two world class howtizers under the ATAGS project, am sure they can do equally well in small arms except that the stake holders (Forces, CAPFs) etc should be stake holders too.

Narrow down on assault rifle, carbine and pdw designs considering all practical aspects of operating environments and come up with a winner none can say no to.

Enough of screwdriveri and royalty payments for the last 70+ years. Develop your own world class products or keep importing for ever and run the risk of sale blockage, sanctions under some whim of the manufacturing country.

Like literally no one is taking the partnership between PLR and IWI seriously!!!! You wanna know how much advantage we get from the all Technology Transfer we get in the long run, not to mention the price tag comes down significantly in bulk orders. No wonder any big western companies wanna setup a joint venture with Indian startups cuz they know its a waste of time and money.

Both are same aren’t they?
Nope. AKV-521 has a completely detachable Upper reciever like AR-15. Also, INSAS style safety selector and galil ACE like charging handle. You can also change the barrel. Its a proper multi caliber AK. On the lines of the Stoner 63, but better. Whether it works is yet to be seen.
