Yeah.. But, hey, how can we be sure that this was an SG operator? They're controlled by RAW, no reason for them to get involved in internal security ops.

@abingdonboy @Unknowncommando 2
1 unit of SG is permanently deployed for CT/COIN ops. We can't be 100% sure but, since Viper P2 helmets are known to be used extensively by SG, we can speculate.

I am sure @Unknowncommando 2 knows more so he may elaborate on this.
so rumours about SG having some mindblowing kit is untrue.
Not really. See this.👇

yes i am taking the claim that this guy is SG with a big pinch of salt.
The lead guy isn’t SG, the one behind likely is, SG are the only ones known to use the ACOG on Tavors

And SG are used in JK for specific missions directed by intel agencies

The helmet on the last guy is used by Marcos and SG. And Marcos doesn't use ACOG on Tavors.
So, it's either the first time or this is an actual SG member.
We're not privy to all details so speculating why he was there is nigh pointless.
Could be a specialised interrogator/negotiator/any number of things. Unlikely, yes, but you can't tell and neither can I.

As far as I know hey show up only if they are after that HVT since long. Their own target with totally independent op & commands. Other forces like 19RR & 164Bn CRPF are regionally deployed forces who supported them. And you are right about local commanders that SG can't be called like SFs.

Some links I found regarding this op.

Today they killed an HVT Paki IED Expert just like they did in 2017.
Their last known op from the valley was on 21/11/2017 Magam, Handwara
It was also an op involving HVTs. They killed 3 Paki LET Jihaadis that day who infiltrated through kupwara few days back. It was a major op as quoted by senior JKP officers.

On the same day in another op involving 23 PARA & 21 RAJRIF along Kupwara LOC an Army Jawan was KIA where LET Jihaadis tried to infiltrate in which LET Commander Saifullah went to receive those infiltrators. Now whether he is the same Saifullah (Also a Paki LET Commander) who was killed 5 days ago in Srinagar or not, I am not so sure.

Interestingly 3 days before this Handwara op 6 Paki LET terrorists (Including Nephew of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi) were killed in in Hajin, Bandipora involving IAF Garud commando Jyoti Prakash Nirala who was KIA in the op for which he received Ashoka Chakra posthumously.
Total bloodbath that week.

Hey, if these guys are really SG, is it okay to not blur their faces? Also, saying that they are SG just because of ACOGs seems a bit far fetched. For one, these guys wouldn't stand around for a photoshoot if they worked for Intel agency. Also, what do we know about SG really... It is not even acknowledged by govt. Last confirmed engagement was probably Op Blue Star. Only confirmed one. Imo, I dont think we have enough data on them to identify them. Just saying.. I could be wrong.

Sure, people are shouting about BNVDs and Integrated Ear Pro but hear me out. Even the US Army Special Forces/ Rangers haven't completely moved over to double tube.
The only STNV you'll see either of them running these days are weapon sights,

Also, you simply can't say that what the guys are seen using in Kashmir is the full kit. Kashmir is an AO where you respond in a moment's notice. And it being a domestic AO, there's a certain amount of lax in the operators. For precision operations, I'm a 100% sure, they don't just put on the bare minimum. Because then they have the time to gear up, head to toe.
This is a weird rational.... SF guys in my country, almost any other European SF, the US/Aus/NZ etc etc have team rooms. Fairly standard set up from country to country.

Each team has a room/set of rooms, everything is set up for them in there, every guy has an individual cage/lockers for his kit in the room, literally walks in, body armour/helmet etc is hung up on one side, comms kit below that, spare batteries ready/charging alongside, secondary kit/belt/etc on other side, extra clothing on the other...in, grabs what he needs, walks out past the individual weapon lockers, grabs his primary, side arm, shotty etc if that's his role....out the door...2-3 minutes.

As an outsider I don't want anyone to take this as talking down or whatever to the Indian SF lads, it's not a criticism of the guys trying to do their job on the ground....it's just these are the basic level things that have been tried, worked and have filtered through units for decades.

Interrogator or negotiator from SOF seems highly unlikely as it is far from SOP for CASOs. Could be wrong, as the target was an IED expert. But, I wouldn't expect an interrogator to come to a field area....

It could also be Garud... They have been known to use Nimrods, Mepro x6 scopes in the past, maybe added ACOG to their arsenal.. Again, all speculation

This Pic looks like a mix of regular PARA SF and SG to me

every unit in the world has pics like this in the field, whether that is CAG, DEVGRU, SAS, GRS etc etc

SG should be covering their faces though and the media really needs to start taking op sec seriously. In the U.K. it’s not permitted to post identifiers (faces, collar numbers etc) of counter terror police officers or special forces, in France there’s a law agaisnt publishing the IDs of any frontline member of the SF or military(they blur Out the IDs of pilots)

India needs to grow up

in the Past there have been IB/Mil intelligence guys running around in CASOs with modernised AKs and ACHs

(still think SG is likely if @Unknowncommando 2 is right about the HVT)

yeah maybe but to date only SG, SPG and NSG have been seen with ACOGs in India(maybe a state police force here and there too) and SG is the only ones known to have them on Tavors.

IB? This is the first time I'm hearing of this.
Why?
Also, any pictures? (Blur them if you must)

I knew that some may not believe so some points here

1) It is not the same Batlskin VIPER P2 Used by the PARA SF & MARCOS.

Helmet used by SG is Batlskin COBRA P2 which is also issued to British Armed Forces

2) Judging from the pictures SG only uses ACOGs on their S-TAR 21 w Upper Rails. These are just like the rails on X95 advanced used by the SFF.

3) Only other known user of 'S-TAR 21 with 12 O' Clock rails' are IAF GARUDs. But here is a small difference between S-TAR21 of GARUDs & SG. Garuds have newer S-TAR 21s with rails on charging handle & have black STANAG magazines instead of grey ones used by SG. While SG is still using S-TAR 21 procured in 2003 with grey magazines & no rails on charging handle.

I checked all the pictures of GARUDs but here some for the reference & to support my claims.

4) Another fact is GARUDs only operate in Bandipora District along with RR & Hajin Police.

5) There is not a single picture of Garud using ACOG or these Revision military VIPER P2 or COBRA P2 Helmets. So no GARUDs for sure.

Ghatak Commandos use both ACOGs and Tavors, but uniform is not of Army, it is of CRPF.

Maybe CoBRA commando (with an ACOG:hehe:)

Garud use NIMROD variable power optics, not ACOGs.
