Source for your claim?
Grey hounds won't get tavors or X-95s..
They have Fn-Fal with them.
Problem with AP govt is ..they say " after ambush naxals take away finest equipment from our slain jawans"
This is why GH dont have BP vests...and of course they are nothing in front of Cobra commandos / CRPF chaps in terms of equipment.
Have a nice day. :yo:

Greyhounds are the most experienced Anti naxal force in the country and they were key in getting rid of maoists in AP for many years till negligence at centre level resulted in the naxals finding safe harbour in neighboring states.. They have been working since late 80s and all forces including COBRA and other local state commando units deployed in the anti naxal drives have been modelled on the Greyhounds. Greyhounds are known for their badassery in anti maost ops, often small teams engaging multiple companies of hardened naxals. They have paid for their experience in blood during the height of the action.

Greyhounds I am sure have already deployed these.

During IFR-2016 ..I asked a Senior special officer....even i took his video ( i deleted it later)..he said they got BP vest and AK-47 ( one with metallic tail ) . Few got selected for sniper group.
AP Police selects tough cadets and give them category A and B.
"A" is for Urban combat A.K.A anti-terror force ( they are too less for state like AP..but we got support from octopus from HYD)
"B" is to check naxal movement and avoid smuggling of red sanders( along with AP forest department) on seshachalam hills ( tirupati).
AK-47 is good for close shots...thats why IA prefers AK-47 than Insas during Coin ops in J &K

I find it amusing that one is comparing Israel with India.

If Israel was after Dawood Ibrahim or Azhar or even the ISI officers behind the Mumbai blasts, they would have by now shaking hands with Allah!

India is not Israel and Israel is not India.

As varied as chalk and cheese!
So very aptly said, there should be some prudence as to who is being compared!

You guys are derailing the entire thread into a thread of congress versus bjp thread where as the whole point of the thread is to discuss about the failures made by BJP especially kargil and kandahar issues during their rule.
Claps! Very well said!
No one can do anything. It's related with Surgical attack. Even after Mumbai attack, We didn't retaliated. Nuke, Diplomacy, Defence capability are 3 reasons.
But now we are working on Cold doctrine to tackle that.
We are still talking about no first use policy, which means it gives the option of 1st us to our enemy! Good work! Get Delhi or Bombay and then retaliate!
Pakistan will launch Nuke BM and all will be destroyed.

I guess you don't understand why the ABM system is being developed or why the S-400 Triumf has been bought then.

NSG faces no shortage of vital equipment

The National Security Guard (NSG) faces no shortage of vital equipment including those meant for night vision, the government said on Tuesday. Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said this in a written statement to the Lok Sabha. He was responding to a question from a member on whether the NSG lacked vital equipment to operate at night "as was evident" during the terrorist attack on the IAF base at Pathankot in January. He said the NSG was granted Rs.674.57 crore in 2014-15, out of which 97 percent had been utilised. The minister added that under a modernisation plan of 2012-17, the government was providing financial assistance to the NSG to acquire sophisticated arms, ammunition and equipment.

Good stuff but they still have a long way to go in terms of being right at the cutting edge of equipment as they NEED to be in the current day and age considering the threats India faces.

+ the best part of the news is how much the NSG is using its budget (97% is incredible).

What business do the Garuds have for such a weapon though? It's an anti-material rifle, they already have Sniper rifles (Galils) that suit their role.
From what i understand, mandate of Garud in wartime

Saboteurs

Combat Air Control

SEAD

Radar Busting

And weapon like OSV 96 can take out small targets at great range for ex a gunship stationed at enemy airbase can be easily disabled from it.

Besides 12.7 also used as anti Sniper weapon.

Furthermore, there is a Tier-1 unit within the Garuds whose main task is to recon & raid strategic weapons storage sights near air bases like Sargodha together with Special Group etc. OSV is a great weapon to have in a heavy firefight.

Well first, I would want the entire SAG to be equipped like the main CT task force in Delhi; not all of the operators in the hubs have this kind of gear.

As for what more they need, I would say- NVG, they have single tube NVG but the top tier SFs have been using twin tube NVGs for a while now and have even moved onto 4 tube NVGs. Other than that, they just need to be constantly spending money on keeping up to date with their counterparts in the West- there are hundreds of little things that we don't think about that the teams need to have access to and at the top tier it is all about the details, they have the basic kit (weapons, helmets, plate carriers).

+ the NSG have ballistic shields but it isn't part of their tradtional SOPs to use them.

The three units the NSG should be compared to (ie the very top end CT units in the world) are GSG-9, FBI HRT and GIGN:

NSG teams may stay till Gujarat hub is set up

Ahmedabad: The teams of National Security Guard (NSG), which rushed to Ahmedabad after the recent terror alert of 10 terrorists having sneaked into Gujarat, are expected to extend their stay in the state until the regional NSG hub at Randesan gets functional. Currently, there are four NSG hubs in the country, at Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh and Kolkata. Randesan would be the country's fifth NSG hub.

Three teams of NSG commandos were flown to Ahmedabad after the recent terror strike inputs. One team was deployed at Somnath temple on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, and the other two were stationed in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Top sources in Gujarat police said the ministry of home affairs may soon station a team of about 140 commandos at Karai Police Academy until the NSG hub comes up.

"The regional NSG hub is expected to become functional within a period of two years," said a top police official.

In August 2014, a team led by Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, joint secretary (police modernization), Union home ministry, had visited Gujarat along with senior NSG officials to inspect land for the regional NSG Hub.

In December 2015, the cabinet had approved allocation of 25 acres of land - worth around Rs490 crore at current prices - at a token rate of one rupee per acre, at Randesan village on the outskirts of Gandhinagar. The land parcel was finalized by NSG after considering various options - Kheda and two other places close to Gandhinagar.

@cobra commando the NSG is still incurring these kinds of costs- setting up such infrastructure across India. I hope they are doing it right and investing in world class faciltiies and not cutting costs but this will leave them with less to spend on equipment for the next few years (until 2020).

+ can anyone explain to me the rationale of setting up the regional NSG hub in Gandhinagar? It's 40+ mins by road to the capital of the state and there is no airport anywhere near this site. The hub will have helipads but the purpose of these hubs is to be regional response centres, the Gujarat hub's teams could be sent anywhere in Western India and thus need to access to fixed wing aircraft.

Was this the only land the state government was willing to offer?

Andhra Pradesh?

This hub is for Gujarat.
But Article says "there are four NSG hubs in the country, at Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh and Kolkata. Randesan would be the country's fifth NSG hub."...1st paragraph's last two lines...
That must be four anti-terror hubs....Delhi (read manesar),mumbai, Andhra (OCTOPUS)..Am I right?

Must be a misprint in the article. The four regional hubs are:

Mumbai
Chennai
Hydrabad- (home to the Southern Regional Centre)
Kolkata

Gujarat/Randesan would thus be the 5th.

All hubs have specifc areas of responsibility for example the Kolkata hub also covers the NE states, Chennai also covers the A&N islands.

Manesar isn't a regional hub- it is the NSG's HQ and training centre.
