Dear Hari,

I agree & all of us might agree what you have said. But This is India, our political leaders care shit for our army & us common people. Thousands might get killed in India in future by the paki militancy, but this situation of our leader ship doing nothing is never going to change.

Let's not get so pessimistic about the state of affairs, the fact that 99.99 of citizenry are peacefully going about living their lives is an example that system works. There are enough systems and safeguards in place to ensure stability is maintained.

Just because you don't hear sensational news about good things that happen does not mean they are not happening.

As far as response to Bakiland is concerned, any good strategist will tell you that there is a time and place for giving an effective response. We just have to wait for the right circumstance for giving the right response.

Well this is the time to resolve this issue with Pakistan. We all know they are an unstable nuclear country & we cant go full scale war them, which will be detrimental in our economic growth. The new government needs to make some plans to create a massive civil war inside pakistan & carry out covert operations to eliminate our enemies. Congress as we know are Islamic boot lickers & they will never think of doing such thing now. We just cant let our brave young soldiers always be on defensive & lay down their lives, something needs to be done very soon & That too within these five years. Blasts in India will never stop, we never know as when what is going to happen & Mumbai is the favourite target for all these pakistani terrorists.

Srinagar: Two dreaded terrorists were killed by the security forces after a fierce gunfight in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday afternoon. The gunbattle in the area is still on as more terrorists are believed to be hiding in Kaddar forest in south Kashmir's Shopian district. "The militants fired at the security forces, triggering an encounter that is still going on. Two militants have been killed so far...," a senior police officer later confirmed. The gunbattle began after an army search party was targeted by the terrorists hiding in Kaddar forest area this morning. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation, 50 kms from here, following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said. As the search operation was on, the hiding militants opened fire at the security forces triggering an encounter, he added. Today's operation comes a day after a dreaded militant was killed by the security forces after a six- hour-long gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir`s Baramulla district. "On specific information about the presence of militants in Sofi Hamam locality of Sopore town, security forces surrounded a house," a senior police officer had said yesterday. The police officer also said that the gunbattle broke out after the hiding militants opened fire on the security forces on being challenged. Reports had earlier said that the security forces believed the guerrillas were related to Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Five militants, including a foreigner, were killed during a gun battle against the security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir Thursday. This is the second encounter between the militants and the security forces in the last 24 hours in the Kashmir Valley. An Army spokesperson said that the five militants were killed in the forested Kohrut area of the district. The encounter had started early Thursday morning. "Based on specific joint intelligence of the army and the police about presence of militants in a hideout in the upper reaches of Kohrut, a joint operation was launched by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group, resulting in killing of five militants," he said. The Army official said that three AK-47 rifles, one SLR, one chinese pistol, and magazines were recovered from the encounter site. "Out of five militants, four were locals and one was a foreigner." DIG (South Kashmir) Alok Kumar told The Indian Express that two of the slain militants belonged to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, while the other three were Jaish-e- Mohammad operatives. Seems that finally Indian MoD is taking a right step along "Make In India" route for weapons. These OFs should have gone through corporatisation a decade ago. Nevertheless, a much needed start -

Govt. planning to corporatise ordnance factories -DINAKAR PERI - The Hindu

Days after terminating the contract of DRDO chief Dr. Avinash Chander, the government is planning to corporatise some of the ordnance factories.
The plan is to initially corporatise about 10 ordnance factories and turn them into Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to make them more accountable and increase their capabilities, sources in Defence Ministry said.
Those under consideration are the cloth making and equipment factories in the Kanpur belt. A note on this matter has already been circulated in the highest echelons of the government and the proposal is likely to get the government nod by April, the sources added.
These factories are into manufacturing personnel clothing, parachute material, small arms, metallurgical equipment, shells and other such equipment.
The move comes close on the heels of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar promising a major overhaul of the DRDO and defence production units.............

In my personal opinion, whichever Indian Defence Minister can take on the Ordinance Factories Board and convert its factories into DPSUs or specialised clusters or separate companies and improve their productiveness...should be given a Paramveer Chakra and a Bharat Ratna together. :p:p:p:p:p

There is a better option. The better option is to create ammo manufacturing capacity in private sector. The competition will take care of OFB. Yes OFB should be corporatized.

Somehow, I am not comfortable with ammo manufacturing by the Indian private sector. Alternatively, GoI can bifurcate and club all ammo making OFs into two companies - say - Hind Ammo and Bharat Ammo and let them compete for MoD, MoH and state police contracts. In essence, it would be their conversion into two DPSUs. The competition will help improve their quality and deadline sticking capability. Some sort of independent quality control mechanism is also required because OFB's in-house QA/QC mechanism is broken and inefficient.

Production of ammo is linked with heavy accountability and risk factor especially when India has so many terrorist activities, insurgencies and maoist activities going around. Barring ammo manufacturing, rest all functions of OFs, including and especially rifle/gun manufacturing should be up for grabs by private sector IMHO.

Army for Night Sight for Automatic Grenade Launcher systems

January 28, 2015: The Indian Army is looking to procure Thermal Imaging Sights for its in- service 30 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL-17)/ Automatic Grenade System (AGS-30) systems. Part of its expanded drive to fight night- blindness across equipment stocks in operations, the Army has stipulated, "The Thermal Imaging Sight desired by the Infantry should be a light weight and ruggedized device to enable accurate engagement of target by use of 30-mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL-17)/Automatic Grenade System (AGS-30) at night / hours of darkness / poor visibility at an effective range of 1700 meters." Interested vendors have been called upon to specify the mount design and details of the Thermal Imaging Sight, the type of Reticle Pattern, the zeroing mechanism for the sight, whether the sight has been provided with Optical magnification or Digital zoom along with the corresponding Field of View, Detection, Recognition and Identification ranges varying from clear night conditions to pitch dark conditions and adverse weather conditions (specify adverse weather conditions) and also the interpretation of Detection, Recognition and Identification ranges in relation to the type of target. Also suggest methodology for field evaluation of the above stated parameters.

Indian Army for Heavy Recovery Vehicle

BEML HRV AV15

February 2, 2015: The Indian Army is looking to procure an unspecified number of heavy recovery vehicles to recover stalled, overturned or broken down heavy or armoured vehicles of the forces. The Army is looking for a vehicle capable of providing recovery cover for vehicles over 15 tons in all terrain (desert, plains, marshy ground, rocky ground and to a limited extent in mountains upto 4,500 metres above sea level). It needs to be capable of un-ditching, up- righting, extricating and pulling wheeled vehicles upto 26 tons. It needs to have a lifespan of over 100,000-km. With a great deal of inductions ahead of heavy and armoured vehicles, the Army requires a great deal of back-up crash support in all theatres. BEML's HRV AV-15 (see photo) will be a contender in any competition that is announced. As reported earlier by SP's, the Army is in the process of inducting over 7,000 new vehicles: 3,500 light bullet proof vehicles (LBPV), 2,500 infantry mobility vehicles, an unspecified number of light armoured multipurpose vehicles, 500-600 light specialty strike specialist vehicles and 228 light strike vehicles, in addition to tanks and utility trucks.

Army still awaits 'cornershot' weapon capability for pistols

February 2, 2015: The Indian Army, which made known its requirement for a corner-shot capability that allows it to mount in-service 9mm pistols for firing from around a corner, a capability widespread with tactical special units in the US and Israel, has still not been able to progress the requirement. Recent encounters in J&K that have resulted in unacceptable casualty levels in close engagements have revived interest in the capability. The Army is seeking the capability specifically for its Rashtriya Rifles units deployed in Jammu & Kashmir, units regularly involved in firefights with militants holed up in residential areas. After expressing initial interest in such a capability in 2009 and 2012, the Army is now understood to be interested in giving this capability to its standard-issue 9mm pistols, which include the Austrian Glock 17, Italian Beretta 92 and German-Swiss SIG Sauer P226. The capability involves an enhancement kit integrated with an existing weapon system with a certain degree of dismantling. A video camera and monitor allows the user to point the weapon at a fulcrum around a corner and use the weapon to survey, target and fire accordingly. The Army also wants the cornershot capability for use with in-service under- barrel grenade launchers (UBGLs). The US-Israeli firm Cornershot is understood to have demonstrated the capability to the Indian Army on at least two occasions. The Indian paramilitary forces, particularly those engaged in anti- Maoist operations have also evaluated the capability. Questions about the capability were also raised with infantry weapons providers at Defexpo in 2014 and Aero India in 2013.
