Japan To Help Strengthen India's Military Prowess

India is very much interested in Japanese military technologies. This was stated by Manohar Parrikar - Minister of Defence of India on the eve of his official three-day visit to Japan.

On the 30th of March, in Tokyo, Parrikar already met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and held talks with his Japanese counterpart — General Nakatani. As it became known to journalists, during the meeting, both sides have expressed satisfaction over the development of bilateral ties in the defence sector.

Japan To Help Strengthen India's Military Prowess / Sputnik India English - News, Opinion, Radio

It seems probable that none of the deal will be concluded, eventually.

Japan, India agree to continue talks on potential US-2 exports | The Japan Times

Japanese want to sell US-2 off the shelf, which India doesn't want to agree to, so the talks will continue --and they have continued for last four years. Japanese also are apprehensive of letting India manufacture the Soryu class submarines in India, owing to their sensitivity on its technology and also they don't want to provoke China too much. So both deals might not go through as India will eventually let go of the infatuation and settle for western options..Modi's visit to France and Germany would be crucial in this regard.

At a fundamental level, this entire thing is being played under the overhang of nuclear deal issue. Japan's negotiator, Fumio Kishida is an arms control hawk (sort of Non Proliferation Ayatollah), so he wants tougher clauses in Indo-Japanese nuclear deal. India, on the other hand, will not give an inch further than what has been agreed in Indo-US nuclear deal.

Eventually, it seems India-Japan relations will stick to the commercial aspects but the strategic relations will remain high on professed notions but blank in terms of concrete achievements. That's international realpolitik - there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent national interests.

India will be successful in building own conventional as well as nuclear subs. India has mastered the technology. Japanese help is no longer needed.

Japan is too self-centered in security matters. It was expected that nothing much will come out of discussion with Japan.

I still feel India should buy US-2 as the plane will be useful for casualty evacuation and special forces insertion. Hope a deal happens on this one. But offsets are must as domestic industry must be built as a part of large deals.

Lt-Gen Hanut Singh Rathore dies while in meditation

Lt-Gen Hanut Singh Rathore (retd), PVSM, MVC, died at his home in Rajpur, here yesterday. Known as a "saint soldier", Lt-Gen Hanut Singh died while in meditation at home.

He was born at Jasol in Barmer district of Rajasthan on July 6, 1933. He attended Col Brown School in Dehradun. As per his family tradition,he joined the Army as part of the first batch of the Joint Services Wing of the Indian Military Academy before the National Defence Academy moved to Khadakvasla, near Pune.

During the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, as Lt-Col, Hanut Singh commanded 17 Poona Horse Cavalry. He was tasked to establish a bridgehead across river Basantar in the Shakargarh sector and to extend support to the infantry battalions. He led his forces across the heavily mined river to successfully take position before advance by the infantry battalions. Pakistanis made repeated attacks to dislodge the Indians, but the Lt-Colonel inspired his men to repulse the armour attack.

Widely known for a 'no-nonsense attitude' and an academic bent of mind in the profession, he was one of the most respected officers in the armoured corps.

Lt Gen Hanut Singh went on to command a mountain division in Sikkim and an armoured division in Punjab. He was also the General Officer Commanding of 2 Corps, the Army's strike corps during Exercise Brasstacks when the country almost went to war with Pakistan. He later served as the Commandant of Armoured Corps Centre and School and retired from service to settle in Dehradun.

Lt Gen Hanut Singh's remains will be cremated at Khankar Ghat, Haridwar on Monday. On this occasion, wreaths will be laid on behalf of Chief of the Army Staff, GOC-in-C Western Command and the Cavalry Association.

#HTExclusive Size of mtn strike corps cut from 70K men to 35K, cost slashed from Rs 88K cr to Rs 38K cr IAF consulted on direct buy of Rafales: Parrikar "¦ via @htTweets

Q. You have said the UPA regime cleared the mountain strike corps project in the eastern sector without factoring in availability of funds? What outlay are you planning to set aside for it?

A. The previous government had estimated it will cost Rs 88,000 crore and will have 70,000 soldiers. I have frozen the cost at Rs 38,000 crore over next eight years. It will consist of 35,000 men. The CCS had cleared the original proposal, but where is the money? Rs 88,000 crore is the army's revenue budget. The CCS kept clearing projects worth Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 1,00,000 crore but where is the actual money? So you have to be selective. I have cleared a Rs 48,000-crore project for seven stealth frigates (P-17A), but I have factored in when the money will be required and at what stage.

Very sensible move to cut down the size of mountain strike corps from DM. The excessive army manpower without appropriate weapons and equipment is only waiting for disaster. It is better to focus on increasing equipment and ammunition, so that existing army can fight effectively.

Just adding to Ray Sir`s post, Just hitting the target is not the aim but the grouping is ..

==========

More than 1000 rnds as normal, Could go double based on situation ..

Grouping at 300m by rifle and at 500 m by LMG ?? That speaks volume of your military knowledge ?

And 1000 rounds per soldier ?? What are you trying to convey ?

After you ever counted 1000 rounds fired by you ........

Grouping is important while firing in a battle .... you must be joking..

There is something called combat shooting and classification firing where snap / timed shooting and hitting the target is practiced. there is no time in such practices for "grouping". Practice for grouping is recruit level training ...

Better come off it..

April 17, 2015: The Army is scouting an unspecified number of new Low Level Light Weight Radars Mark-ll for deployment in non-mountainous sectors like desert and plains. The radar needs to be easily transportable and capable of detecting even small, low-RCS entities like UAVs. The Army would prefer sensors with a integrated target designation system capability, with means to supply targeting data to a weapon. The Army requires the new radars principally to build a sensory barrier against low-level air intrusions across the border from China and Pakistan, especially by helicopters, low-flying tactical aircraft and surveillance drones. It requires radars that are easily transportable and ready for operations within minutes of assembly. The radars will work to track complex target manoeuvers at very low altitudes and to provide targeting solutions on them when integrated with weapon systems. aircraft and 'spy planes' or unmanned aerial vehicles. With air intrusions continuing periodically especially in the North East, the Army is looking to ramp up the capability. The DRDO is also building low level radars, which the Army is now looking to augment with more numbers. Companies like Thales have supplied low-level surveillance radars to the Indian Air Force in the past.

PANAJI: The much-awaited "one rank, one pension" (OROP) for the armed forces is likely to be cleared in a few days, defence minister Manohar Parrikar said in Goa on Saturday.

"OROP proposal is in final stage. The defence ministry has approved it and the finance ministry will clear it in a few days," he added.

He said it is the first time that a clear proposal has been sent to finance ministry on OROP.

An estimated Rs 8,000 crore is likely to be allocated by the government to fulfill its commitment to the over 25 lakh ex-servicemen, who have been demanding OROP for several years.

Indian army kills four militants after sixteen-hour gun battle

SRINAGAR: The Indian army killed four militants during a sixteen- hour gun battle in the Kashmir region that ended late on Sunday, foiling an attack on a military base after the men crossed the heavily militarised border from Pakistan, police said. The fighting erupted near the border town of Tangdhar after the men were spotted approaching the base and then took shelter in two homes, said a police officer, who asked not to be identified. The army fired mortars and machine guns at the buildings and airlifted 40 soldiers from an elite commando unit to battle the men, the officer said. The army is searching for two militants who may have escaped, he said. "There were multiple blasts in these two houses as the militants were carrying a large quantity of ammunition that went off in the army operation," the officer said. Senior police official Garib Dass confirmed that the four had been killed in the clash. This was the second major attack on the Indian army in the last week after three soldiers were shot dead by militants. Militants in Kashmir also shot dead two men and threatened to kill employees working for mobile phone companies in the last week. In May, a previously unknown militant group called Lashkar-e- Islam put up posters demanding phone companies shut down their operations amid concerns their cell towers were being used to locate and target fighters.

Looks like they were waiting for Armata to show up. Now like a spoilt brat they want everything to have common platform. And his uncle DRDO will promise him something he can't really deliver.

The following variants are planned to be developed on the FRCV platform:
