Four Militants Killed in Gun Battle With Security Forces Near LoC

SRINAGAR: Four militants were killed Saturday by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district along the Line of Control (LoC), police said.

Heavily armed militants were surrounded by the soldiers near the LoC in Tangdhar sector during the intervening night of Sep 19 and Sep 20, police said. "Following intelligence inputs, the army challenged the militants in Tangdhar sector Saturday morning," police said. "The militants started firing at the soldiers triggering an encounter in which four militants were killed and their weapons were seized." "All routes have been sealed so that the militants cannot escape," a senior police officer told IANS. "Around 15 of the militants are still firing at the soldiers. A fierce encounter has been going on in the area." The army and other security forces are presently busy providing relief materials to thousands of flood victims in the state. A high alert has been issued along the LoC in Kashmir Valley and Jammu region to ensure that the militants can be prevented from taking any advantage of the army's divided attention.

RIP to all the soldiers and condolences to the family.

Was thinking would it be a better idea to look into the future and see if we can use drones to carry cargo ... and weaponised drones to monitor areas instead of these Light helicopters. Converting our current stock of Cheethas into pilotless helicopters for cargo deliver would not be a hard task for our engineers. also cheethas are like nanos when we have scorpios and jaguars

better invest in heavy and more sturdy helicopters that carry many and large cargo. improve the dhruv and LCA, LCH, etc etc even new stuff coming up like v-22 osprey (but the height considerations is important). siachen also needs mobile helicopters for emergency and quick deployment but these can be managed by other systems and even pilotless automatic helicopters.

RIP to pilots , this is bound to happen when u stretch machine more than its life cycle. Hope modi govt buy some choppers soon
A machine with mostly local content ought to do better. It is not just age. Parts have to be replaced at certain intervals. Engines need to be overhauled or replaced.

It is better to ground an aircraft if the maintenance is inadequate.

Defence Minister gives a stern warning to Pakistan saying that INDIAN ARMED FORCES are ready for everything and are very well prepared.

What can we make out of this?

Indian Gov says this and that, but the firing never stops nor the infiltration neither the ceasefire violations....

What is the use in giving warnings? We have to do something, that which can shut everything from across the border.....

Will the present GoI do? Or will it just give warnings..... which are useless.....

GoI is not seeing that our civilians are being killed.... If this was an Israeli, we all saw and know what Israel did in revenge. We also saw what America is doing to ISIS. Why is the GoI waiting? What are they waiting for?

This shows that the Indian Armed Forces are not well prepared and are having some drawbacks......

The biggest problem in India is Nehru's socialism. The socialism has created a bloated bureaucracy that consumes the resources of this country without giving much in return.

You are right that today's India is not strong enough to deal with its enemies in a comprehensive manner.

However remember that the country need to focus on economic and social development which is more important than wars. Pakistan will collapse from its own internal problems. Pakistan can fight with India but cannot win.

Can India justify investment in UAV systems like Predator based on the current border situation? I believe it would be an effective countermeasure to Paki aggression.

Dont think so. India has several means available today which India does not use. For example India has MLRS systems that can be used to attack terrorist camps. But India avoids use of such weapons.

UAV might be useful in low intensity conflicts like Iraq or A-stan where the enemy has no capability to track and destroy it.

Border region is infested with SAM systems, so the big question arise has India developed its methodologies to use these system effectively. I frankly don't know.
