I have no idea why India is suddenly obsessed with UCP long since it was ridiculed and withdrawn out of service from its developer’s nation. it works somewhat for MARCOs in their naval ops

given that the IAF has very little manpower that will ever see ground combat I guess it’s a bit irrelevant and the Garuds are unlikely to adopt this anyway so it’s all a bit moot. It does show once again how lost Indian senior leadership is- these kind of PR stunts that they can talk up during their high profile events (same thing with their women talking points of recent years) meanwhile their actual mission is falling apart

IAF’s generals should be losing sleep over the state of their squadron strength instead they are going to speak about ‘new’ uniforms and MRFA- both of which won’t contribute a single item to the issue.

Some IAF officers that I have seen wore green army style pattern .

And as far as airborne jammer aircraft and dedicated ELINT platforms - thus usually fall under the purview of ARC and do not merit mention in the press. AFAIK we received 3 brand new platforms courtesy US firms LM Boeing and Raytheon, and they have been used/are being used to monitor Chinese dispositions

"Only 19" lmfao no wonder IAF and IA keeps crashing their helis. Alot of them were due to pilot errors. For dhruvs, the earlier versions were a complete POS. Just ask ecuador or see some of the comments on them by the Navy. The newer ones are pretty solid. They are used quite extensively on all sort of terrain and rescue ops, but they still have some issues that needs a deeper look

If the illustrations are indeed correct and not representative of the systems in service, then we have got the 5P85TE3 TEL based on BAZ 64022 6x6 series as part of the S-400 deal.

Bottom left corner.

But here's a catch. 5P85TE3 can't carry and launch the 400 km or 380 km 40N6 or its E variant.

Only the 51P6E launcher based on MZKT 7930 can launch the 40N6 series missile. So , I believe , we have also bought this particular model of TEL.


And I have a gut feeling that besides airspace denial and interception of fighter jets , ISR and ISTAR assets, AWACS and AEW&S , the other imp task is area BMD of Vital areas and IAF bases in the hinterland hosting fighter and transport squadrons .

IAF gets a new Weapon System Branch- All you want to know

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence this will help in the unification of all weapon system operators under one entity which will be dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and also specialist airborne weapon systems.

In a first after Independence, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the Indian Air Force a new operational branch has been created — Weapon Systems (WS) Branch.

This was announced by the IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari at the air force parade at Chandigarh on Saturday.

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence this will help in the unification of all weapon system operators under one entity which will be dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and also specialist airborne weapon systems.

In his address at the Parade the IAF Chief said that these four sub-streams are mainly to man four specialised streams including: remotely-piloted aircraft, surface-to-air missiles; surface-to-surface missiles, and weapon system operators in twin- and multi-crew aircraft.

This will be divided into four sub-streams and each will have its own skill set. This means that each branch would induct cadre of officers with specialised skills.

According to the IAF Chief this will also help in savings of almost Rs 3, 400 crore as it will reduce the expenditure on flying training.

Four Sub-streams

First on the list is `Flying’

This will have officers who will be weapons systems operators in twin-engine twin seater fighter aircraft, the Su-30 MKI (IAF has around 265 in its fleet).

Also, those flying Attack helicopters which are all twin-set versions and this category includes the latest Light Combat Helicopter, Apache AH-64E from Boeing, and Mi -25/35 the Russian make.

Second sub-stream is Remote

The operators of the UAVs which were inducted in the service include the domestic armed version of the UAVs and also in the future operators of the Predator drones from the US based General Atomics.

Third sub-stream is Intelligence

This sub-stream will have analysts of imagery which has been obtained through surveillance carried out by the UAVs or through satellites. There will be information warfare specialists; analysts of intelligence inputs, observers and signal intelligence collation.

And also, operators of space systems will be part of this sub-system.

Fourth sub-stream is Surface

Besides the newly inducted S-400 air defence system from Russia, there will be mission commanders, and also operators of surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air guided weapons and other than close-in weapons systems.

The Centre on Saturday approved the creation of a weapon systems branch for the Indian Air Force (IAF) officers for the first time since Independence


The Centre on Saturday approved the creation of a weapon systems branch for the Indian Air Force (IAF) officers for the first time since Independence.
Addressing a gathering during the 90th Air Force Day celebrations here, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari said, "It is my privilege to announce that the government has approved the creation of a weapon systems branch for the officers of the Indian Air Force."
"This is the first time since Independence that a new operational branch is being created. The creation of this branch would result in savings of over Rs 3,400 crore due to the reduced expenditure on flying training," he said.
This was the first time that the annual day celebrations were held outside the National Capital Region (NCR).
The Defence Ministry said in a statement, "In a historic step for the Indian Air Force (IAF), the government has approved the creation of a new branch called the weapon systems branch."
The creation of this branch would entail unification of all weapon system operators under one entity dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and specialist airborne weapon systems.
The branch would encompass operators in four specialised streams -- surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, remotely piloted aircraft and weapon system operators in twin/multi-crew aircraft. It will contribute immensely by enhancing the war fighting capability of the Indian Air Force.
"We are increasingly seeing the convergence of all these domains in one continuum in the form of hybrid warfare. The conventional systems and weapons will need to be augmented by modern, flexible and adaptive technology," Chaudhari said while emphasising on 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
"We've inherited the proud legacy curated by sheer hard work, perseverance and vision of our predecessors. We must acknowledge the contributions of our veterans who chartered this course. Now the onus is on us to usher IAF into the centenary decade."
Speaking about the synergy of all three services - the Army, Navy and Air Force - he said, "One single service can't win a war on its own. Work is in progress to enhance the jointness of three services."
The Air Chief Marshal also spoke about the recently-launched Agnipath scheme, saying, "Induction of air warriors into IAF through the Agnipath scheme is a challenge for all of us. But more importantly, it's an opportunity for us to harness the potential of India's youth and channelise it towards the service of the nation.
"We've changed our operational training methodology to ensure that each Agniveer is equipped with the right skills and knowledge to start a career in IAF. In December this year, we'd be inducting 3,000 'Agniveer Vayu' for initial training. This number will go up in the years to come."
The Air Force chief also said that next year, the force will induct women Agniveers.
"We are also planning to induct women Agniveers starting next year. Creation of infrastructure is in progress and streamlining of trade structures is being finalised," he said.
A ceremonial parade was organised at the Air Force Station to mark the occasion with Chaudhari taking the salute.
Earlier, the IAF chief reviewed the ceremonial parade commanded by Group Captain Anoop Singh, with a three aircraft formation of Mi-17 helicopters trooping the IAF ensign followed by a formation of three Rudra helicopters flying past the saluting dais in an aerial salute.
The IAF's new combat uniform was also unveiled on the occasion.

What about them? I believe they have specialized crew for to operate them.
