Extremely interesting talk by Abhijit Iyer Mitra on the issues with the defense procurement in India. Talks about the Rafale deal & its intricacies as well as the issues we are facing with Su-30MKIs and ToT.

Some of the issues he highlighted with the Su-30s really make your head spin. It’s like we have had buffoons negotiating & finalising trash deals for us without any set strategy in mind.

Most of the analysis of Iyer Mitra is overreaching(as has been in the past) but there might be some truth here and there.. He simply hates russian tech is a fact and just generalizes them. He is a bhakt of american capitalism is not hidden. But an interesting POV none the less.

That's gone too. They are not buying FA-50.

Argentinian recently did came to India looking for old retired ship so that they can get their navy some leg up and create leverage for future defence contract but that didn't come to fruition. Don't forget UK has animosity with Argentina,any sale to them will piss UK. So one needs to carefully balance things and move on.

Tejas might stil be in the fray if govt wants.

No... Only 62 Mig-29 remaining as of February 2019 (half UPG), we had 69 in 2012.
250+ (atleast 200 built/assembled in India) operational Su-30 as of July 2019, exact number unknown.
