That doesn't stop Pakistan or China from training against it to learn how to defeat it. As far as Russian encryption it is rudimentary at best. Chinese hackers would have no problem getting to that source code.
Learning How To defeat And practice It in actual war is To Different ball game together
That Is Where the Multi-Layer Air Defense Comes In India Structured It Air defense. Use Of Indo-Isaraeli's Platform

Chinese Hackers Over-Hyped Shits they didn't Made J-20 at 70 % of what F-35

Even Rafale F3R has More In terms of Data Fusion And Avionics than J-20

S400 provides a capability which IAF has lacked which is long range air defence,S400 might not be as good against terrain hugging cruise missiles but most AD systems are not good against that maybe NASAMS 2 is but our enemy lack that type of cruise missiles but it is very reliable against Paki AF aircrafts especially in the enemy air space, a typical scenario would be if Indian army launches in PoK then IAF can enforce a no fly zone over it and paki won't go nuclear as it is still not paki territory with additional MRSAM,Akash 1s,QRSAM AD assets providing coverage to VA/VP.

1) if we go by the hungama the pakis have created for downing their F-16, it’s clear they worry more about their image than loss of their assets(both man and equipment). since S-400 is a defensive systems, chances of Paki deploying anything against it remote.
You certainly can't count on that and is a useless purchase if it isn't intended to be used during a war. The contract is $5 billion out of the IAF budget that is sorely needed for aircraft procurement.

Answer this... what is needed more, 5 batteries of S-400 or 5 extra squadrons of Tejas?

5 batteries of S-400.

Decision to buy S-400 is a 6-7 year old decision, process got delayed because of multiple factors including American pressure.

Indian airforce’s confidence in LCA is a recent phenomenon, mostly because of initiatives taken by manohar Parrikar.

When you rewind the clock 5 years, it used to be a different reality back then.

They might have been needed back then when China didn't have them. Now that squadron numbers are at half strength it is time to get serious about rebuilding the IAF, not wasteful spending on something that will never get used. If it does the PLAAF and PAF will have been training against the Chinese version for years.

People need to understand how important it is to not have equipment operated by your enemies.

Not 5 batteries. India is buying 5 regiments i.e. 10 battalions which is close to 40 batteries.

For $5billion we get only 3 squadrons of MK1A rather than 5 as you say (recent deal is $6.5bn for 83 jets). Not to mention that the deliveries start in 2024 after order of 83 is complete. Compared to that by 2022 the delivery of S400 will be complete.

By all measures this is money thoroughly well spent. And of course it will be used during a war but first and foremost it will deter the enemy from starting a war.

That would be a fair point if PAF had up to date jets right now. Fortunately for us they have mostly junk from china and obsolete jets from France. No amount of training and strategizing will help them on that front.

Essentially what the S400 does is to take their second and third tier jets out of the game so they cant overwhelm us with numbers (our Achilles Heal due to low no. of squadrons). This leaves the IAF to concentrate on the 50 or so F16s.

To put it simply S400 is the most cost effective stop gap (till the MK2 production line is up and running) for IAF on the market right now.

S-400 is a stand alone deterrence system. It's capabilities far exceed anything which is available rn. IAF totally junked patriot thaad we don't need that we have home grown anti icbm system. IAF chief said s-400 is biggest boost which IAF can get with luxury of s-400 and MR-sam regional balances will change in favor of india. Indian navy used tons of equipment which chinese and india shared such as killo class subs su-30 etc tanks.
We cannot afford 75+ squadrons which paf +Chinese airforce will have. Only way forward should be the having a capable squadrons strength plus even better air defence system.
Pakistan can train against rafales to they does that make rafale useless? They train against su-30 does that makes that jet useless certainly not. We also train against F-16.
S-400 is the cheapest air defence system when you see how much area it covers. S-400 can literally make PAF useless.

Our ssb program is created with the help of Russians. Because there is still a common interest + trust. Technically they can share our sub acoustic signatures and all but that doesn't happen. Who knows indian s-400 have a different electronic warfare system. Certainly it's a classified system.

And Chinese doesn't have 400km range missile.

Every system after some years become a lesser capable system. USAF is training against s-300 for years but i don't think reputation of that system is reduced. In fact india going for s-400 shows how capable that system is.

Area denial weapons are better than air superiority weapons in some cases such as in case of subs india used to buy more subs in 90s because we had threat from bigger navy's. In iran s-300 system is a big headache for other forces(you can say Israel fooled them but why they don't destroy that system? Just like they destroyed pantsir (which india rejected tho) . Now again with the growth of Chinese navy IN is getting confused to start building subs fast as we need subs for area denial we have large numbers of ships but very few subs. Chinese build tons of ssk for area denial only now they are building surface ships for superiority. Rafale can provide superiority s-400 can provide area denial.

India defied threats of U.S. sanctions by finalizing a $5.4 billion deal to purchase five batteries of the Russian S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft system... Each battery normally consists of eight launchers, 112 missiles, and command and support vehicles.

You can buy 5 squadrons of Mark 1 not to mention weapons and support contracts for that much.

A battery in the article is actually a battalion, as a battalion of S-400 has eight launchers.
A regiment has 2 battalions.
There are articles like the below that say India is buying 5 regiments..

Delivery starts from October 2020 and final delivery will be 2023 . I think we are asking t expedite the final delivery by a year ahead . Lets see what ruskies will be able to do .
Looks like attempt being made to coincide delivery with US elections. US election date Nov 2020.

But I doubt Russia will agree, Russia would like friction between US and India.
