price is insane. its too much and the advantage that they may give after full induction will be less.

it shoudlnt be a big mistake for India after 10 years so better take appropriate decision now by having some patience and seeing the developments around. i dont to see India running into trouble after 10 15 years because of the scarcity of spares that too because the assembly line for the aircraft is now closed and the aircraft is declared obsolete in its own country of origin.

Trust Mr.Clean Anthony to drag his feet on every single thing. Did any body notice that the deal for the VIP Helicopters was signed so quickly despite the hefty price tag that had to be paid for them.

Then, the rupee exchange is ridiculously high which would mean millions in additional dollars

I suspect that rupee value may kill this deal..
The payments are made in in Dollars or Euros at the point of delivery. Today's exchange rate will have nothing to do with. If its in Euro's then expect the Euro to lose 30-40% over the next few years and the bill to go down.

All I know is that Rafale is the "best" fighter that nobody wants. It wouldn't look good for India to buy something that practically every other self-respecting Air Force has rejected. The EF on the other hand is ridiculously expensive for performance that the SH can match or exceed (not to mention that PAF may already be sufficiently aquainted with due to Saudi assets).

The Price for the EF and Rafele is, as has been disclosed, virtually the same. The SH failed to past the test, it isn't up to the job and its not much cheaper.

We do not know how the Euro will perform in the next years, but a loss of 30-40% vs. Rupee or USD in the short or medium term is quite implausible.

.
Err... This is not a car sales deal. Payment is made in tranches . That means first payment is made within 30 / 45 days of being invoiced.

I am just wondering why there is no update being asked by the media. Somebody should write to an Indian journalist, tweet them what have you, about why there is no word about the deal with only 1 week left.

Well, it has become more like a used car deal - all the bells and whistles, all the test drives and "service promises" ...
now all we need is some pretty girls in skimpy clothes to 'seal the deal" ...

The French are everywhere with their Rafale. What do you think are their chances in Sebia? (Off topic)
At 150 million a piece, which is only to start with, I doubt any country outside India and certain Gulf-states, would be insane enough to buy more than a token amount. If I'm not mistaken, India too is now giving a 2nd thought. With an economy that has gone south coupled with rampant inflation, widenning trade deficit and a currency that is weakenning rapidly, the MMRCA deal is increasingly looking shaky.

One thing is for sure the face off exercise itself for India..

Serbia is surely going for JF-17s..

Christmas gift?

The Defense ministry and air force officials are working hard, going through complex calculations to decide the lowest bidder for the 126 fighter jet contract.

Grapevine has it that the winner between the French contender Rafale and the European consortium's Eurofighter will be declared after Christmas. After all, the employees of the two contenders are keen to enjoy the holiday season.

Christmas shouldn't make a difference to India. It shouldn't make much of a difference to either Dassault or EADS. Only a small number are involved from each company and can put off the holiday season for the deal. The loser can take a year long vacation.

^^^ cancellation rumour is also under circulation!!!!!
Only if both bids are very close to each other or if they have surpassed the budget limit.

In case it does happen, I wonder if there will be a new tender or a govt to govt purchase. Another 2-3 years then. Maybe more if it is re-tendered.

i think the mmrca should be cancelled and india should order another 126 super-sukhoi aircraft from russia which will be the next best thing to pak-fa.india is already ordering 42 so another 126 will make the deal to about 168 aircraft and about 80000 rupees.this will take out total su-30mki fleet to about 400 aircraft which is more than enough for the next 10 years until pak-fa arrives.also hal and iaf would not need to establish an entirely new maintainaince and logistic line for mmrca.

SU-30MKI operational cost and Maintenance cost are higher than both MRCA aircrafts..

Mainly due to engines..

moreover russians are not those russians whom we can blindly put our faith.
su-30 is heavy, use more fuel and is difficult to maintain.
