Ya'll Nibbiars if the Sri Lanka really want to woo us they give the Chinese port contracts to the Indian Firms. And we are in better state to handle this then were 15 years ago. Need to grow up direct stand against the Chinese I the region.

Ya'll Nibbiars The Sri Lankans see The Planned Kanyakumari and Nicobar Port as the threat to their economy. Their Textile and Clothing industry is also depend on this ports and under threat by the Bangladeshi. And only the MAS Holdings is keeping this industry alive with the Women's Inner wears. Which is run by a Indian Origin person and other than tamilian Origin I think Marwadi.

it also can’t be the case that GoI ignores them all together, so level of communication will continue from GoI.

Nepal and SL already using this tactic, day is not far when Bhutan and BD adopt this openly.

and there are “think tanker” like C Rajagopalan of ISAS (Singapore based) who keep creating narratives that India is loosing its neighbourhood by not engaging them. in response to these narratives, MEA goes on an overdrive of appeasement. Rajagopalan does this every two three years, next one is not far away.

Correction : C Raja mohan

yup, for historical reasons GoI doesn’t have self confidence to take aggressive stands on these matters.

or may be they are doing it behind the scenes, we don’t know.
Ya'll Nibbiars we can have a deal here if they hand over the Chinese contracts to the Infian Firms no more give and never take back. And should always be Give and Take. We need to cement our strong hold on the Sri Lankan economy to that extent that they can't even look to others. It's possible now if we grow our MEA to be a more Hawkish type. And we have the financial might for that.

look at it from a SL perspective, it is more beneficial for them to play both sides. obviously MEA folks know this as well.

So in effect, every one knows everything and keep maintaining status quo.

Ya'll Nibbiars of these were that smart would had hand over the sovereignty if the Port City to the Chinese. And it's now like a Chinese Treaty port with the Chinese regulations instead of a Sri Lankan one. A Chinese Enclaves.

UK: University grants 80,000 pounds of public money for ‘research’ that will defend China and criticise MPs who spoke against Beijing

The government-sponsored grant is for a thesis by Rong Wei. The thesis proposal reportedly described the China Research Group as having played ‘a major role in the social and political construction of China as the new international pariah’.

Clutter accrued in last 30 years, especially after Indira Gandhi has blocked every military and strategic input into regional and geo-political handling.

The experiences of IPKF, Punjab and Kashmir has somehow put us into defensive. To mitigate overt regional or international interference we have stopped unsettling neighbors and have become vulnerable to their blackmails.

Modi was expected to change this paradigm but it seems we are not discussing it enough. Same clutter obscured our judgment on Afghanistan. Same defensiveness is shown on handling China and also some what Pakistan.

The paradigm can be changed once the policy makers start understanding the utility of assertive or offensive doctrine as a better tool of defense especially to operate in the region. This an enlightenment but must be build on strong internal security foundation.

Hopefully there will be leaders and think tanks drafting policies and writing day to day scripts; who can connect internal security with our regional eccentricities creating more and more space for us to dominate.

As of now we are infamous or discredited for things we are not. It also means they expect us to do the rightful but preempt us not to.

at this point in time there are no indications that there is a change in policy.

Someday I will have to do a write up on all major narratives created against GoI in past 7 years, and the impact it had on foreign policy. especially those narratives which looked like domestically focused on the surface but had foreign policy impact.
