It's all very sketchy to be honest. He was quite chummy with the Gandhis in Rajiv's time. Clearly didn't get what he wanted and eventually turned against the family.

Even for his tea party stunt, he never ended up getting the FM post he was lusting after. So nowadays he spits venom against Gandhis and goes around trying to claim credit for various cases like RJB, SSR etc. The more time that passes, the more I become convinced that Ram Jethmalani's diagnosis of him as a person was spot on.

This guy is a self proclaimed "Viraat Hindu" with a non-Hindu wife and Muslim son in law; his misleading article from early 2000's on RSS talking about how they should be banned - is still available online, as is his infamous TV interview clip regarding Babri and BJP/Hindutva. And the less said about his double speak regarding China, the better.

Modi has truly given a clinical, textbook demonstration of how to handle people like him.
