15 years after the project started, how many missiles do you see in the hands of Indian armed forces?
8 flight trials of the Nirbhay were conducted, all 8 of them were successful.
So by no means a failure.
Forces inducting it or not is a different question all together, the core technologies have successfully been tested & validated which is the most important aspect of this program.

So about HPR project, i am inferring from this report that a there would be two phases and the first one would have L&T Israeli screw driver giri radar and the 2nd phase will have a indie DRDO one.

It's such a sad sight to see that the even in tech such as radars in which we are doing good, we are still buying videshi maal. Looks like a EMerGenCy buy to me, otherwise doesn't makes sense at all.

Read the comments for more context.

Report is especially saying about L&T HPR

If this HPR of screwdrivergiri comes true, all this Atmanirbharta is a farce and these guys are full on mode to just import whatever they can.

And mind it that DRDO has been ready for tech transfer for a long time

And the most bizzare part is, we will even import a lesser advanced product, should be no surprise given ATAGS and TGS chakkar, maybe DRDO HPR was just too heavy(pun intended)

Dude brahmos without warhead costs 24 crore. When misfired missile which went in al-bakistan our officers were fired. they went in supreme court and during that mess. this number came.
So how can with tax it's cost can go 3-3.5X ?

I think it is new 800km range missile.
It must include whole maintainance of missiles, canisters every other possible thing regarding brahmos missile.
First.... BRAHMOS are kept in hermetically shielded cannister.

Second.... How many missiles were ordered?

Whole approach of Giving Orders to Privet Companies which they are technically uncapable of is killing AMCA.

Another point is, Sometime you have to accept the piecemeal approach of Forces is scaring away even the Privet Players.

Strange na??

TATA can sign a deal for manufacturing 40 C-295, but won't form a partnership to develop AMCA for which IAF assured 6 squadrons. For that they want IAF to order F-21 from LM first.

Mahindra can sign a MoU with Embraer for a deal which is yet to see light, but wont partner up for a project for which IAF is lobbying with IN.

All of these, when GoI has already laid out option to use HAL facility by private companies for SPV and series production rollout.

#DesignBureau

The Director General Armored Corps wasted an opportunity to work with DRDO on iterative development of Arjun tank over last 3-decades.

They could've owned the project, worked with the industry to do incremental upgrades and in the process become knowledgeable about India's own scientific and industrial base.

This would've helped them to develop realistic objectives and timelines.

But rather than take the tough route, it was happy importing a Russian tank and carry on with the T-series.

And given their lack of real-world exposure, the RFP for FRCV unsurprisingly reads as BBC - Best of Brochure Claims copied after reading a few foreign defense journals.

People manning DG Armored Corps have no idea about concepts like the country's own scientific and industrial base, working with the R&D establishment or industry on iterative development or defining realistic goals and timelines.

People who've no clue about how a cycle is designed and manufactured suddenly wish the industry to magically give them a Formula 1 car level technology. And make it double quick, please!

And when reality of their Unobtainium expectations hit the reality, they will water it down by 50% and import the latest Russian tank.

Indian navy has developed 30 mm programmable ammunition for AK 630
whats the point of programable ammo for ak630 type system they are meant to fire 3-4 thousand bullets quickly to kill the incoming object
programable ammo is usually for slow rate of fire guns

unable to find mention of programmable ammo in this video.

programming the ammo also requires change in config of the gun, data on when the round should burst is fed into the bullet at the time of release ,unlikely that either IN or DRDO can do that on imported guns already deployed on the ships.

There is a difference between "Already Mass Produced" & "Proven Tech" vs. "Cutting Edge" & "Unproven & Still to be DESIGNED & DEVELOPED".

Good.

Then who would produce AMCA first to prove the technology and cut the edge?
Too much risk involved in pooling expensive resources for assembling an yet to be proven tech and for which numbers are unknown (Piecemeal Orders if partly qualify or tech dramatically change during developmental phase - again go through changed RFP, with increased Cost and Invested Time).

It fails to generate confidence
