Those asking about nagastra, Army has already ordered the small hand and tube launched ones which have ranges of 25-40 km and load of 1.5 to 4 kgs.

Nagastra 2, launched from vehicle top has range of 40-100 kms and payload of 5-10kg.
Whereas vehicle launched Harop has payload of 20-23 kg and range upto 1000kms.

So Nagastra 2 is not even in same category as its much smaller and lower range. I am pretty sure, solar group would be developing something similar to Harop as they already have a smaller vehicle top launched one. So till then Harop will be used.

Here is the website of solar group :

I thought many India start ups are capable of developing such drones
Yes, Indian startups are capable of developing such drones, but the issue is lack of gov, IAF support - need both
Why is he winking over this?
No we not, IA having huge requirement for such drones.

IAF and IA are not same, one guard skies and other land, two different jobs, hence different requirement & need different drones

ack of gov
Incorrect on that part gov has been nothing but supportive tachnology transfer to private firms opening new testing centres for firms and what not iaf has been supporting them too in that matter it's just we have nothing for that category yet when we will forces won't import like they stopped importing smaller drones and ordered nagastra, tata, Newspace and what not.

Not enough,
If you want to test a long range drone, you need huge favors from Gov, need permission from IAF, DRDO , Aviation Ministry etc, words and signature in papers don't do the job.
Only Navy and IA working with private sector so far, IAF still relays on HAL, DRDO for testing. You cant test range, ins, targeting systems, fcs only in testing centers, for that you need testing grounds, some thing DRDO, IAF, HAL owns for now
Private sector testing grounds limited to less than 100kms[I think] LOS.
If IAF want to stop import, then they need to build their own R&D center for drone, building entire testing facilities, and invite private sector to work with them or ask drdo to form a jv to develop one or ask private sector to build a assembly line for foreign ones or can ask hal
The US Air Force has built and flown a mysterious full-scale prototype of its future fighter jet and IAF develops indigenous 'Vayulink' platform for jammer-proof .. Read more at
We are far behind in testing facilities compared to US, China, EU, Russia etc and still use military test/exercises facilities for majority of testing - a major reason for import.
FYI - Both IA and IAF having different purpose and requirement

We are behind cause we started late it's barely been 4 years instead we should be proud of what our firms have achieved in 4-5 years the countries you mentioned have huge defence mncs working for more than 20-30 years in defence with r&d facilities and alot of experience with a great pool of talent to recruit from we have barely started just give them time in matter of 3-5 more years we will have our own ecosystem that will work more efficiently and better

Another reason for import.
At the end - 2030~2035,
Indian ones is less advanced compared to others and need more import
FYI - we are developing drones for more than two decade
If you only considering Private sector, then ecosystem depends on order and profits , IA offers more orders and profit compared to IAF
EV and Smartphone industry also helpful in building drone eco system
Also developing drones/LM for IAF is more complex than ones required for IA,
means IAF need foreign drone/LM tech for future purchases, on the hand Indian drone makers can meet 90% of IA needs
IAF also ordered 100s Indian drones[EO] to safeguard their airbases in 2022
FYI- IAF and IA drone/LM requirement are different. IA buys IDDM ones for their 90% requirement/need compared to IAF 20~35%, considering 4+ years time frame.

How do you even go on about countering something like this?
EOTS
Air defense missile with EO seeker
DEW etc
article is in the link.

I'm unable to access the article
LOL, ammo depot fire in 2016 - from past 2 decade I am reading multiple reports/article about how badly IA stores its weapons/ammunition, reducing its lifespan
Anyone knows current status of IA/IAF storage facilities/conditions ??
