Wonderful step towards next gen powertrains.
hopefully HAL and gomint take this of highest priority.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Collaborating with ZeroAvia to Develop Hydrogen Powertrain for Dornier 228 Zero-Emission Aircraft. -----> LINK

  • HAL & ZeroAvia will develop a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to incorporate a 600KW hydrogen-electric powertrain system into a Dornier 228 aircraft.
  • HAL intends to offer retrofits to existing Dornier & Hindustan-228 Aircraft and line fit new manufactured Dornier & Hindustan-228 Aircraft.
  • The aircraft will use the ZeroAvia ZA600, the company's first commercial type powertrain platform, capable of producing up to 600 kW without emissions.

BENGALURU, India and KEMBLE, United Kingdom and HOLLISTER, Calif., Nov. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- ZeroAvia, the leading innovator in zero emission aviation, has announced a development collaboration with the Indian state-owned aerospace & defence company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) for a hydrogen-electric powertrain capable of flying the 19 seat Dornier 228 aircraft up to 500 NM.

HAL intends to work with ZeroAvia to develop a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to allow retrofit of existing airframes for both Indian military and worldwide operators. HAL also intends to continue to build new aircraft with additional FAA approval, designated Hindustan-228, creating the opportunity to incorporate ZeroAvia's ZA600 zero-emission engines. Additionally, HAL and ZeroAvia engineers will integrate ZeroAvia's ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain into the Dornier 228 airframe. ZeroAvia will work closely with HAL and aircraft regulators during this project to ensure that aircraft meets both safety and operational requirements.

Approximately 270 Dornier 228 aircraft have been manufactured globally, with 242 currently in service. The production line of Do-228 aircraft is operational at HAL, India (Transport Aircraft Division, Kanpur, UP, India).

"HAL is committed to contributing to the protection and better development of the environment. This MoU with ZeroAvia has the potential to pave the way for zero emission regional connectivity. We are looking forward to steering and supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation in India and the world", says R Madhavan, CMD, HAL.

"HAL is committed to the ongoing development of the Dornier 228 aircraft, and it is critical to offer it as a zero-emission platform, including the conversion of the existing fleet," said Apurba Roy, General Manager, HAL's Transport Aircraft Division. "We are honored to partner with ZeroAvia, who in our view is leading the way in the development of innovative solutions to deliver practical zero-emission aircraft", he added.

"We are pleased to be working with HAL to deliver zero-emission aircraft to market in the shortest time frame," said Val Miftakhov, CEO and founder of ZeroAvia. "HAL has a long experience with the Dornier 228 aircraft, and since this is also our flight test aircraft, this collaboration helps us achieve our goal of certifying our engine whilst providing an STC solution to operators worldwide,"

A Dornier 228 based at ZeroAvia's facility at Cotswold Airport in the UK is being used as the dedicated development platform for the HyFlyer II project, which is progressing the R&D required for the ZA600 powertrain for 19-seat aircraft. ZeroAvia recently successfully ground-tested its 600kW powertrain and will begin flight testing using its Dornier 228 in the coming months to achieve certification and entry into commercial service in 2024.

Don't know much about the Hydrogen pier source it will be very good if you read about the Zero Avia Hydrogen power train in their website . The hydrogen fuel can replace the Aviation fuel of Jet engine and can produce electricity to propel the Turbine blades. Zero Avia is a world leader in this tech . I need to study thoroughly about their tech to give a technically sound answer.

Ya'll Nibbiars Meanwhile the Paki Mullahs.

This #IndiaMilitaryOut has Pakistani ISI info war imprinted all over it. Just scan his twitter account and tally the links with any youthia account you'll trace the similarities. Some Khaled professor, a CJ Leperboy and a website- "asianpeace.org" based out of Thailand. Now when you visit this website it has all anti India articles published along the same lines- Muzzie, Kashmir, Junagarh is an integral part of Pakistan etc. Now why would a predominantly Buddhist country Thailand have so much interest in Muslims of India and the local politics here?

Basically you are using Hydrogen Fuel cell as similar to what has been developed for cars to power the jet engine. The one developed by ZeroAvia for 19 seater plane is 600 kw fuel cell I believe. In short, the propellers would be driven by electricity from these cells instead of burning conventional aviation fuel.

But this is a niche tech and we have to wait to see its efficiency on air. On ground it it was proved its metal.

Sagar Defence unveiled USV-4 fully autonomous Unmanned Surface Vessel emphasized the civil defense fusion - the need of the hour.

USV-4 can operate at cruising speed for more than 48 hours at sea and is easily deployable from the port with the advanced mission control system. Mine countermeasures and anti-submarine warfare features intend to combat global threats and aid the security forces.

Last month Sagar Designed Developed and Manufactured Autonomous Unmanned surface vehicle successfully carried out state of the art SONAR trials. The high-bandwidth RF communications allow operator interaction for data monitoring and validation, navigation and control, or alternatively the USV can be operated in a totally autonomous mode. The trials included multiple deployment and recovery cycles, towing at different speeds and transmission at various power levels. During the last few years, significant interest in autonomous and unmanned vehicles has developed within the survey community. Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV’s) are being considered for tasks such as data gathering in waters considered too shallow for manned vehicles and in areas presenting hazardous operating conditions. The USV also has a GPS, Radio Frequency (RF) communication system, along with an Hydrophones, single-beam echo sounder and a multibeam SONAR.
